My Targa Bruised Badly! (ugly pics warning)
SubscribeI just finished watching the " Breaking it Down " episode showing three totally wrecked Porsches at LA Porsche Dismantling and how they wrecked them some more during the dismantling phase. Flattened 'em in the end at the scrap yard. And now this. It's almost too much to bare. I'd be depressed for a week if it were my car but let's investigate the silver lining of this dark cloud. Because you leased the car and get to give it back to the dealer at the end of the lease, without penalty. Then you can get a brand new Porsche if you want. Once you drive off in the shiny new Porsche you'll completely forget the old wrecked one. See a happy ending after all.

Good point, I think I agree.Originally Posted by EJ-997
Why is it some people think replacing a dented fender is the end of the world? And other people replace a bumper and call it a mod and it is good? Strange.

Me too. Our cars are not people, they are things, and they make them every day. Good body shops can make them like new, especially when it is just some cosmetic surface damage and not structural. When I sold my Targa a year and a half ago, I found out that one rear quarter panel had been repainted at some point, most likely to repair some minor damage during shipping. I had never seen it and was not aware of it until then. A car with a repaired body can still deliver many miles and years of driving joy.Originally Posted by w00tPORSCHE

probably comes down to being able to choose... plus depreciation of a repaired car (once again, not ur choice).
accidents is an unwelcomed surprise where u have no saying in the matter.. and u r car's value goes down accordingly.
Plus, if u caused it, u feel stupid.
and if it's the other person's fault, u feel unfortunate.
mods are exciting cause u r making a personalized statement.. by choice.

but if u knew about it before u purchased it, would u have even bought the car.. at the same price ?Originally Posted by keninirvine

One of the most aggravating things about owning a Porsche is the mass hysteria associated with a scratch, dent or anything that violates the sanctity (sp) of the car.
When a typical mishap, that can happen to any car, happens to a Porsche somehow it's blown out of proportion and becomes a "deal breaker" when buying or selling a car. It can be so minor but because it happened to a "Porsche" the car becomes essentially worthless
and should be relegated to the scrap heap....
In my opinion Carfax does no one a service... Something that could have been so minor but gets "reported" can cost the owner/seller thousands when the vehicle changes hands. Have the car checked out... if a qualified mechanic can't find a problem with the car then the minor event doesn't affect the car as a whole.... If you use the Carfax report as a hammer when working a deal then it'll be used against you when you go to sell the car...
I don't care if the front clip has been touched up/painted to remove stone chips ... The painters typically do a great job and it'll look great. A dented fender is just a dented fender...
I'm rambling now so I'm done....
No harm no foul..
