Substitute for Mobil1 15w-50?

I was a Mobil1 0w-40 guy in my 997S until I supercharged it, at which point I moved to Mobil1 15w-50.

However, I can't seem to find it locally anymore.

Any thoughts on what might be a good substitute? I change the oil & filter myself every 5,000 miles.

My Mechanic swears by Liqui Moly. I used it my last oil change.

This should be required reading for all oil discussions, likely your oil is too thick. Thinner is cooler, and flows better. Http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/motor-oil-101/

I was in Lodi NJ last week and saw Mobil 1 15-50 on the shelves. It was an Advance Autoparts store I think. Im not sure if they have recently put it back on the market or what. That is the 1st time Ive seen in on a store shelf in a few years.

Check the Mobil distributor locator

http://www.distributorlocator.exxonm...tor/index.aspx

Your local distributor will either have it or be able to get it for you.

In terms of a good replacement for 15W50 (which is too thick for your car under startup conditions), I would stick to Mobil 1 5W50 (also available through the distributor and apparently some Mercedes Dealerships)

Here ya go, RP killed it www.animegame.com/cars/Oil%20Tests.pdf I am a believer, switched from Mobil 1 0W-40 to RP 5W-40. Bought enough for my Eurovan Camper and Audi S6 Avant. The Street Commodores later printed a retraction, saying the test would be better for bearing grease. Still, I am impressed, micro polishing my engine bearings.

I've been using Motul 8100 x-cess for my oil changes and have been very happy with it. I also change my own oil and filter every 5,000 miles. Best price I've found so far is through Amazon for the 4 pak 5 liter deal.

Yes, that was the article I was thinking about. A few Porsche enthusiasts as well as Domestic enthusiasts in my area swear by this oil. A few of them had their engines teared down for rebuilding and were impressed with how "new" they look, as well as no sludge build up.

Just came back from the local walmart and they are once again carrying Mobil 1 15-50. Cattman check your local vendors as I believe that the oil will be on store shelves again everywhere really soon.

FWIW, this test has nothing to do with the performance of an oil in your engine... Likely the reason that they printed a retraction. If you really want to ace that test, pour some coca cola in the thing and you will be amazed at its performance. Household bleach does even better. I wouldn't want either in my engine...

If you stick with any of the major brands, you will be fine. And don't get too crazy with changing the viscosities around. 5W50, 5W40, 0W40 are all great viscosities for these engines.
