991 Prototype Burns to Flames

Just saw this on WorldCarFans.com:

Prototype developed specially for the Chinese market

On the outskirts of Steinegg Germany a Porsche 911 Cabriolet prototype went up in flames during a routine test drive.

The fire originated in the engine bay on this prototype which was specially developed for the Chinese market. According to fire chief commander Klaus Buchinger, "The car has burned like tinder." The car was completely burnt out within 15 minutes.

The exact cause of the fire is not known yet but the vehicle was brought to the Porsche center in Weissach for further examination.

No one was injured.

As previously reported, the next generation Porsche 911 Carrera will be powered by a 3.4-liter flat six making 350 PS (257 kW / 345 bhp) while the Carrera Swill have 400 PS (294 kW / 395 bhp). Two transmissions will be available in the form of a 7-spd manual or 7-spd PDK.
