using blistered tires...

Has anyone driven on blistered tires that look like this? (the pic below is the outside front right tire)

I have heard of people driving on cords for a bit, but I have no info. on blisters. I know they result from internal heat in the tire. Does blistering this pronounced indicate internal damage that compromises the integrity of the tire?

The other 3 tires are fine. I'd replace it if i could find a used right sided 225/40 18 corsa (anyone?). What about DEs in the mean time?

As always,
Thanks for any feedback

DRP

I think the more concerning thing is the crack in the sidewall (above the 'c' in corsa).

Just don't eff with it...especially on the track! Your car and more importantly your life are worth more than a tire or even a set of them. Btw, Pirelli makes a great calendar; their tires, not so much, imho. Best,

That's not blistering that is chunking. Check your alignment and air pressure. The chunking is still driveable but drive hard and it will continue until you get the alignment and psi right.

Also like Dr. Bill mentioned...check out what appears to be a crack in the sidewall.

More info.

I should have explained- I just got these tires used. The other 3 are good but I didn't see this one until I got them home. I have never driven on them. If I can find a used replacement, I'll get one, but I can't get a new tire, or even new fronts since they won't match the grip level of the rears... Right?

What I want to know is...is this safe to lap on? My car is a stock 997.2 - it's unlikely my alignment & driving style would have caused this although who knows for sure.

I wouldn't go to the track with a corded tire, but I'd finish the day up if the cord appeared during the event. But I don't know anything about blistering? Is this tire ruined, or is it good for a few DEs? Trust me, I'll try to find a replacement, but if not can I run hard on this sucker?

Also, there's no tear in the sidewall. It's the rubber you can pull off left from the mold. It's deceiving in the picture.

Thanks,
DRP

Like Mike said, it is chunking. You need more negative camber. Factory alignment specs are total crap for the track or DEs. If the side wall is fine they you can flip on the rim, adjust the camber and go racing. A little chunking never hurt anyone.
