Buying Advice

This is a great community with a lot of people that look after each other. I'm in the market for my first 911 and came across a car yesterday.

09 cs cab. Macadamia on sand biege. 1-owner, Under 10k miles, full leather, nav, dual power seats, heated seats, chorno. What is the 'right' price for this car?

I have mixed feelings on the Macadamia. I love the color, but hope its not a novelty and the thought of having something 'different' will fade.

What are some of things I should look after / reports to run other than carfax?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I"m not sure of the right price yet but I can tell you that asking prices have risen greatly in the last few weeks.

Is the car a private sale or from a dealer. What warranty is left?

You will need to get a PPI (inspection) unless the cars is CPO'ed and even then some buyers do it.

good luck

A lot of variables in the price of the car. Buckwheat noted them above, but as far as the color goes, I think you would be fine with Macedamia in terms of resale, etc....Make sure there is a service history as well. That car should have had the 2 year service done by now (with a brake flush). Examine the tires because those are probably due as well with that mileage. These things can add up right out of the gate and are points of negotiation. If the car is CPO'd then a lot of this will probably have been dealt with, but if it is a private seller, you need to check. I would say this car with CPO would run in the lower 80's with some haggling based on my limited research. Private seller price might be in the high 70's with some good haggling.

dolce: the trans ? Have you driven it w/ the top down as well as closed ? The car's msrp was over $110k and a new one will exceed $113k. Sound System ? Color is good but not 'typical' ie. not Black.

The market IS getting higher for the '09 because produced so fewer :

* ALL 911 2009 6,839 2008 8,324 2007 12,493
* 911 c2s cab 2009 1006 2008 1211 2007 1372

Does anyone happen to have 2010/2011 production numbers?

Good Questions

All good questions that I failed to address in my post.

From a dealer. It still has the factory warranty (4yr, 50k), so some time left on it and is certified.

It does have the BOSE sound system.

It is a 6 spd. I wouldn't have anything other.

Cocoa top.

I have not driven the car because its 900 miles away.

I'm being told the MSRP was $125 (not sure if this is bs).

I'm trying to buy the car in the high 60's.

If its 125k then there is more than just the Bose system.

high 60's may be possible once the summer is over...not doable now IMO...high 70's more like it for an "S"...base can be had for high "60's"

CPO is a plus.

I like the macadamia brown allot....to me a classic color for a cab.

'09 Cab. 6speed

IMO because the mileage is low and it's a cab you'll wait a bit to get this fish below $70k. Good luck !

There is an '09 cab 6sp (Bank Owned) in KC Missouri. You'll find it on Cars.com : 13,800 miles

I think that color will be hard to resell or at least you will likely take some hit because of it.

I couldn't get the guy down into the $60's as I had hoped. I'm in no rush to get the car, so I'm going to wait for a good deal to come along (although the prices seem to keep going up as I wait).

I'll probably look to pick something up in the dead of the winter. This is also when the 991's come out, so my hope is that 09 997 owners will be looking to get into the 991 and out of their 997 (more 997s on the market, 1 generation old model, dead winter = lower price on 09 cab). At least that's the theory.

Thank you, all, for your help and feedback. I'll continue to remain on the board as the search continues.

If anyone here is looking to depart from their 09 cab, shoot me a message.

Thanks again.

I've been checking out local dealer prices and they have literally gotten insane in NJ. (I've been thinking about replacing the boxster with a new toy.)

I see a 10-15K markup over similar cars from May to now.

However I do not believe the 991 will have much effect on 997.2 prices. Maybe 997.1 prices. But we will know soon enough.

It looks like you and I are thinking/hoping for the same thing except I'm in the market for one with PDK.

Good luck in you're search.

I have mixed feelings on the Macadamia.
And that is exactly what future buyers will have when you sell, assuming you buy this one.
You will have a smaller resell market.

Check out eBay motors. I have a post under the "DME over revs Ranges 3, 4 and 5 reported. Is it OK?" thread on why I think it is a good way to go. I think Edmunds' TMV is a good estimate of value. I got tired of dealers wanting $10,000 over the TMV.

Not that I know more about it than anyone else, but I just lived through the process this week with my car supposed to be shipping tomorrow. I'll be glad to share with you what I learned.

As far as the color, you are wise to consider the resale issues. Selling a sports car is a process of patience, because there are fewer buyers and they are high priced. If you absolutely love the color and want it, who cares? If you are indifferent, buy it at your number, not there's.

Don
