Sometimes i hate people
NoNoNo..
I dont buy a car to impress anyone. I just love Naturally Aspirated Engines. I never buy a car with a turbo. That's Just me. The affordability part is not even in question.
I really have so much of Appreciation for the NA flat 6. I can barely handle this car in sport mode.
I am just a regular driver who will sometimes step on it to feel the power and enjoy the curves - of the car and the road.

Personally (and this is just me so don't get all worked up folks) but I don't like the body work on the Turbos. The power yes, but cosmetics, no.
I really like the look of a nice clean Porsche. Sometime the Turbo looks "hoakey". Hard to explain, but I don't like the side vents and all that. I would love the motor in a c2s though.

Actually I think a great deal of interpretation depends on the intent of the person asking the question .
1) If the person is simply ignorant about cars -- then the question is somewhat innocent . He or she might just be showing interest in a nice way (or perhaps to learn) .
On the other hand
2) If the person is not ignorant -- then directing the question at the Turbo is a means of delivering a put down by comparison . By praising the Turbo indirectly he (or she) is putting down the 997S without even having to say a word . The message is understood .

I tested lots of Porsches before getting my 911S cab, and I thought the Boxster S was an absolute blast. At least back then, I liked the way it drove more than the 911 (could be different now that I've spent more time with the 911), but having the smallish back seat was a decisive factor in favor of the 911 (because of our daughter).
that's my reply
the question most idiots ask me today (depends on country) is either:
"why did you spend so much on a car?"
or
"why didn't you buy the new Maseratti?"
my answers are
"Because I can..." and "Because I like driving"
People will always try to make you feel bad about your purchase... If they keep hassling me about how their choice is best I just shut them up with "did you pay for it? no! so until I am buying stuff using your account, I have no need to explain myself to you."
People who engage in such conversations deserve to be put in their place, and there is no reason to remain humble towards people who try to upset you due to your success

First person to speak my language.
I even had someone tell me in all seriousness that for the amount of money I spent on the porsche, I could have bought 5 camrys and accords in different colors for each business day of the week. LOL
Eff 'em
I definitely need to hang out with you and Jeff.
Holler at me when you guys are getting together.
Oops!! I guess i hi jacked my own thread.
All I've ever done is shrug my shoulders and say, "Because I didn't want a Turbo". I couldn't possibly care less what anyone else thinks about me having an "S" or a Turbo or opting for a GTS rather than waiting for the 991.
