Clutch Pedal Stays on the Floor
SubscribeHi all -
I've been having a periodic problem where my clutch pedal sometimes stays on the floor after shifting. When I say periodic I mean it occurs maybe once or twice a week. I reach down and pop it back up and its fine. I googled the problem and I've seen mention "bad clutch slave cylinder".
My question for you guys (and gals
) should I ignore the problem until it occurs more frequently or should I have it looked into right away?
Thanks for your thought!

First thing to do is flush your brake fluid including bleeding the slave cylinder. You might have some air trapped in there. If that doesn't solve it, probably a defective slave.
While i have not changed a porsche clutch slave, its usually not a particularly hard or costly job. Just install and bleed. I would definitely address it, and be sure to look under the car and carpets to see where any leaking fluid has gone.
Well, you've got 2 choices. The first would be to get it fixed. The second would be to ignore it and wait until you get stranded in the middle of nowhere with an unresponsive clutch pedal. Seems simple to me. What is it that you're struggling with ?

I'm due for service in 3,500 miles. If I'm not running the risk of a breakdown, I'd prefer to wait to have this looked at during the next service interval rather than make a separate trip to the dealer.Originally Posted by Dadio

Sounds like it will be covered under my extended warrantee contract.
Thanks to all for the feedback!
You're just going to break down and get stranded. Happened to me on my 997.1. The slave cylinder went bad, so the clutch pedal was stuck to the ground (as you described). One week after getting it fixed, my brakes failed - just as I was trying to slow down for a red light. Not fun. Luckily didn't get hurt - but I was lucky. The brakes and clutch share the same slave cylinder. Don't put yourself and others at risk.
Get it fixed ASAP.
Get it fixed ASAP.
