Dectane LED Install Question

Got my LED's today from Germany and it took all of 19 minutes to get them installed. They seem to work great and I get no alarms or error messages.

But, I did notice as I was installing the light, there was an extra unused eletrical connector. I just figured it was for a car with an option mine didn't have. Then as I was cleaning up the packing pops I found 2 little black boxes in the big box with plugs that match the usused ones on the lights. What are these and where are they supposed to mount? Everything on mine seems to be working (I think) so I'm not sure what these are for?

They're likely your rear "fog" lights, operated in the extreme position of your headlight switch (one pull further than the one for the front fog lights). They are seldom used in North America. In your factory housings, a regular bulb was used since the fog light was behind the red plastic lens. On the LED version, the fog position is behind the clear portion of the plastic lens. Therefore, if you want fog lights, you either have to install a red bulb, or install a LED light that emits red light.

I believe, those are the resistors for cars that get error messages after installing the Dectane lights.

hopper997s is infamous around these parts
Some model don't need the resistors, if your is working fine then you don't have to use it.

No bulb needed with Dectane - just plug n play. Fog lights work without any intervention other than turning them on. Unused connector is for extra resistor pack that might be needed for early models of 997.1.

Absolutely correct. I needed to use the resistor pack (early 997.1) to 'fool' the lamp sensing circuit and the rear fog light (driver's side) works perfectly when activated.

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't aware the Dectane lights were different than my Rotecs.

You guys nailed it. I had sent a follow up note to Frank for confirmation and his response is below. Their customer service after the sale seems really good too.

"Porsche used two different wiring cables for the 997.1 series.

One already has the resistors and the other one doesnt. You car seems to have them already.

So they are needless. You may sell them anywhere."
Mit freundlichen Grüßen
With kind regards

The guys on Rennlist.com are eating these up like candy! BTW, heard rumors that Front Fog LED DRL's should be announced shortly. Trying to get a fellow poster on Rennlist to post pics.
