Dension 500 Placement Questions
Dension 500 Placement Questions
Hello,
I'm getting ready to have the Dension 500 installed in my 997 Cab and have some questions about the placement of the unit and cables. I have already done lots of research, watched every video available about how the unit operates via PCM, etc, so I feel I know what's going on.
I am constantly changing artists and songs, and am thinking that the steps involved via PCM are complicated as compared to just manually changing them via the ipod (at least for me). My thinking is that I'm going to have both the 500 and aux input box mounted on top of Nav drive, since there's lots of space there and it is very easy to access. I then would have the ipod cable run through the console and up through the ashtray (hole cut in bottom). The thinking is for this location is that since I would mostly be manually adjusting, this spot is much more ergonomically friendly, being forward by where my hand naturally is, than way back in the console storage compartment, where I usually keep glasses, sunglasses, etc.
In order to have a choice of ipod placement and storage (so I wouldn't have to return to installer) I would also have a 3.5mm cable placed in the storage space under the aircon controls, and run it to the aux box. This way, if it is easier to store the ipod and pick it up/put down, I can use that way instead. But, with the ipod cable in the ashtray, I can always use it for charging.
My questions are:
-Is it okay to place the 500 and aux box on the nav drive?
-Is there an audible difference between the ipod cable and the aux input?
-If there isn't an audible difference, I would likely just use the 3.5mm cable for playback due to convenient location (not when charging is needed). This being the case, would I be better off then installing the ipod cable in the rear center console compartment?
I know this is long, but I want it done right the first time so I don't have to go back and have it reconfigured.
Thanks!

I mounted the Dension on top of my nav unit. Just zip tied on and ran the cable into the cabin.
If the ipod is attached to the ipod male cable (from the Dension), you have to change songs thru the PCM.
In order to changes songs like you want to (using the ipod), the ipod would have to be connected to the 3.5mm cable.
