How to take compliments

I get compliments about my Porsche all the time. I've never been one to take compliments very well. My normal response is just "Thanks!" or the other day some guy said to me, "It must be nice owning a 911!" I responded, " It's awesome. Hard work pays off in the end." I don't want to be percieved as arrogant or snobbish because I own a nice car. I was curious to know what some of you tell people when they compliment you on your car?

I've tried this as well and it seemed as though the person was expecting me to say more. Have you ever felt that way?

I know what you mean. My response depends on the specific circumstances, but generally I try to be modest and friendly, and avoid arousing jealousy. Examples:

"Nice car" -> "Thanks" (with a smile)

"Must be nice driving a 911" -> "It's a nice car, but in the end it's just a car"

"Must be nice to be able to afford a 911" -> "I saved up for a really long time, and it's not one of the more expensive 911s"

Perhaps they're looking to have a conversation with you regarding the car. 9/10 if I'm complimenting someone on their car it's because I'm curious about mods, etc.

This morning I got" hey, is that your VW out there (the coffee shop I was at)" I said you bet, and it's one fast V-dub! LOL.

Just roll with the compliments/comments.

And then there was the highly cute teenage girl who said to me "I'd love a ride in your car"

Time for another poll!! (just kidding) Would you, or wouldn't you?

With images of Chris Hansen in my mind, I politely smiled and walked quickly away.

My stock response is, "thanks...I love this car...and I know you're not supposed to love things...but I love this car." Sometimes people want to talk, sometimes that's basically the end of the conversation. But "thanks" generally seems like the right response.

When some one say "Nice car", I usually just respond with a smile and a "Thanks".

When asked what it is like to own/drive one I repsond, "It is a lot of fun". Most people are happy with that.
