I'm not a PDK hater; I just jumped into this thread to combat some mis-information and counter the PDK-loving crew's statements the manual is archaic, PDK is better in every way except for those that prefer outdated nostalgia, etc
I think that using PDK's manual mode is a MUST on the track. Last thing we want is the car deciding to shift at an unwelcome time, especially mid-corner.

Agreed. I found this out (not with the Carrera S I was driving, but rather my own GT-R) the hard way.

I was modulating throttle on exit, and I lifted a little too much (obviously, I screwed up the corner), the car thought I was coming off throttle, and upshifted. It was bit surprising, and I haven't used it on track since.

However, since then, I've realized that when I lifted - I should have pushed the throttle more (again, in the GT-R, not the Carrera S).

Maybe she understood your meaning, maybe not. But using a whole class of people (eg, women) to represent a particular form of incompetence (eg, driving) can still be considered offensive. I know that 6speed tends to be a "guy's club" because we're mostly guys here, but we don't want women to feel unwelcome. The more women we have as car enthusiasts, the easier it is to convince our wives to let us buy expensive cars.

Fair enough. But she has GOT to know she is the anomaly, and not the norm. I'm sure she sees it every time she is on track.

My wife has joined me for a few events, and she notices that there is only one or two other women out there.

However, tying this all together - my wife would not have participated, if we had taken her 6sp C2. She only chose to come with me because of the automatic mode of DCT-R (equivalent to Sport Plus for PDK).

Agreed on the anomaly part. I'm trying to convince my wife to go with me to the Porsche driving school, but she seems a bit scared, and definitely doesn't have my eagerness to drive fast. They actually have a seperate session just for women, which kind of goes to your point.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I'll stick around. @ GTR guy, I didn't take the comment all that seriously or personally. I've been an anomaly since I was 19 and learned how to work on cars. Cheers!
