Limited Slip

Hey Guys....I'm new to the forum with my first Porsche ever. 08 911 C2S and I'm blessed to have this beautiful car in my garage. I've been dreaming about having a 911 for over 20 years. A few promotions and some saving....Now I GOT IT!

One questions: Do these cars come with Limited Slip or is this an option? Reason I ask is that the right rear tire seems to have a bit more wear than the one on the left.

Your car (997.1) does not come from factory with LSD. There are aftermarket ones available if you feel you need it.

Nice color car. Are those rims knock-offs? The factory does not offer chrome rims.

I really don't know about the rims. How could I tell if they're knock-offs? I was thinking about changing the rims down the road but not sure what I might do.

Wow, that car looks familiar sans the wheels. Is it ruby red metallic? If so I have the same car with lobsters. Nice!

I added a Quaife differential to my car, makes a huge difference in the way the car responds.

Yes, it's ruby red. You hardly ever see this color and I like that. The Porsche dealer told me that I'm one of two that own one in Nashville.

If you are a hard core track guy and have experience, lots of experience then a LSD will help...for the street and occasional DE no need for LSD.

Thanks...

I won't be upgrading to an LSD. I was shocked that this wasn't standard equipment on this car. Seems like all the high performance cars come with LSD's.

As mdrums said see if you need it. Most people do not feel they need it.

I suggest you enroll into PCA an look for local DE events to better learn your car.

I plan on it. I received "Rookie of the Year" with the Chicago BMW Club auto crossing my Mini Cooper so I sort of know my way around an automobile. The Porsche definitely handles much different with the rear engine design and it will take some training for sure. I don't think it will rally through the turns like my s2000.

LSD is being rare with all the stability controls. When I asked my sell guy about LSD he told me yeah you have LSD, stability control it is!
I gave him come on...
Would be nice if it comes with LSD as standard but really on the street you can hardly push the car enough to feel any difference.

The reason that more than 90% of 911s ever sold don't come with an LSD is because the rear engine location with all that weight over the drive axle gives you great traction. In all but track circumstances you pretty much don't need one.

If you do decide you want a performance differential, we've still got a few torque biasing differentials kicking around. We've discontinued the line since there's not much demand for them and if you go dig through the 997 Vendor Classifieds you find a "clearance sale" thread I put up some time last year. I don't remember what the price is, but I can probably do a little better than that for anyone who is interested.

Is that the Quaife that you sold me many years ago? If so it has been excellent for the track and street.

Hello Van,
Nope, these are Guard LSDs. I sold you that Quaife about 6 months before I purchased GT. In all honesty, what I have now is a bit better made than what you have in your car. But then a Rolex is a bit better made than a Tissot, but they both keep good time.
