Any one researched and tried different tires?

Just had Bridgestone Potenza RE050A (N1) installed on my C4S today. After driving 100 miles already I am impressed with it. It handles like the Mich PS2 but much quieter compare to the PS2 when it was new. I paid $1379.00(including tax and labor) at the local Dunn Tire and couldn't be happier.

What speed do you mean? I've had the Hankooks for about 3000 miles and at speeds up to 90 mph the car is very stable. What happened to make it scary for you?[/QUOTE
I have had them for about 10k+ miles the reason why i say there scary is because at speeds around a 100+ the cars rim felt like it was dancing in the tire and i had them balanced and what not, by a real good guy. Now another reason why there scary is ever been on a boat? Ever feel a boat wobbel side to side basicly unstable in and out of traffic (no i dont street race) but at times i am in a hurry and the car wobbels when it comes time to go in and out of traffic at say 50 60mph. I never encounterd this issue with the stock Pzero's. Basicly my wifes C350 benz out handels me i have takin same turns with her car and mine. pretty embarrasing. But on the other hand some people love the hankooks. Thats just my experiance. Never again. My IMO.

I had the same issue last year. My 04 996 had a set of Sumitomo HTR ZIII front and rear when I bought it. In NorCal there is a lot of rough pavement in these days of budget woes. This leads to LOTS of road noise. It seemed like there was no sound deadening in the rear wheel wells. I got the car when there was 3000 on the set. They lasted 10,000 miles to the wear bars. Good grip, but I hated the tires because they were loud.
I researched and chose the Continental Extreme DWs on the rear like another post. Great tire. Great grip and quiet. They are very slippery when you first put them on. Give them a few miles break in before evaluating them.
I now have 8000 on them with a lot of tread left. I seem to be hearing more noise than I remember. So it may be that low tread increases noise levels. Any one else experience this?
As to your question of where to buy and research. I research at Tire Rack and take the price quote to Wheel Works in Nor Cal. Great service and they match price (for the most part.) Tire Rack has great tire reviews.

I have those tires and they are very stable at all speeds. Maybe they are defective?

Im not sure if it is or not but with my luck tey prob are. Too late for me to return them just going to have to deal with them.

Check tire pressure. The manual has 2 recommendations. One pressure for a fully loaded car and another pressure for normal loads.
Talk to your installer about your experience and maybe he can do something with the alignment.

Personally, I dont believe you could tell any difference in different tires at a certain speed. You can tell alot of difference in roads, incorrect tire balance, pressures, alignment, mechanical problems.

Went from the OEM PS2s, which were great but have a front/rear burn rate of 1 to 2, to Hankook Ventus. Broke the rear end loose at slow (<50 mph) speed when I first got them. Put appx. 1500 miles on them driving from Brooklyn NY to Dallas TX. No problems at speed (>100 mph). Was considering just 2 rear PS2s but opted for the Hankooks because they were half as expensive and I don't track or really test the limits. The Hankooks are not as sticky (not yet at least) but they seem decent. Haven't noticed execssive road noise or a difference from the PS2s, but that might just be me - others have complained. Damon at Tire Rack was very helpful during my research phase. Ordered them on a Tuesday afternoon and they were at the installer the next morning (no, didn't opt for express shipping). Great Bear on Queens Blvd. installed them. No problems there either.

Pilot Super Sports are going on my car after this weekend of tracking puts the final touches on the life of my Pirelli Corsas. I went with a guy that has them on his car and he is pleased with them for all around use (mainly track). Unless you are an instructor, or a top-flight track junkie, I think these tires make sense for the vast majority of us.
