Do I go new or used? questions / opinions
I never buy new for high end cars anymore. After seeing the depreciation hit after selling two high end cars, I started looking at used cars. For many people, their Porsches, Ferraris, etc are only weekend cars and are meticulously kept. Look at 2-3 yo 997 turbos, there are some that are 40-50 grand off MSRP.
Also, as said above, I would wait until the 991 comes out. The 997 will drop further in price.

i would agree with this timing but imho on current market best car to buy is a GTS. I amnot sure if many of them will go for resale even when 991 will come out. So i would guess may be dealers will put some incentive on GTS which are still left at that time, but it is big IF as those cars sell relatively well.
if you have a budget i would not wait ang would search for nice new GTS with sport chrono and SPASM suspension options. regular PASM sits higher and does not have LSD - but that new 997.2 SPASM is very good. it is one heck of a package and price is nice, there were plenty of those GTS cars in 105-110K range around. Make sure you also get one with navigation and bluetooth/ipod option as it is not easy to retrofit apparently.
if you do not have budget for new GTS - then shop about for '09+ DFI cars with manual 6sp, they are mostly nice. I would not bother with 08 or older cars now, they have to omany engine issues compared to newer DFI cars and electronics are inferior, their time is gone.

I guess im gonna wait it out get a feel for the market see what possibilites/options are going on ... during this I am finishing the loan on my z06 off
It sounds like you have 60 to 70k to spend? In that case, I would recommend a nicely optioned, low mileage 08' C2S, with CPO. Or a base 09' 997.2 with CPO. Used is obviously the way to go, let someone else take the depreciation hit. Good luck, have a feeling your c6 will sit in the garage collecting dust.

The z06 may sit in the garage lol but if it does its cause I want to do the East Coast Supercharging N/A Cam pack on it ... should put down mid 600s to the wheels...
Disagree a bit on the argument for a new GTS. My local dealer has 2012 GTS's and they are $110-120 and the cabs are over $130k! MSRP of course. Not to rag on the new GTS owners around, but Porsche has done a good job of dressing up the 997 with this addition and the cars are expensive. That is an expensive daily. Maybe if they get incentives to move them, but my take is that this car will be yesterday's news when the 991 hits these shores, as yrralis1 suggests.
What is a better value, a dressed up 997 or a '08 Turbo cab CPO for just over $100k. "Value" is relative, but the Turbo was $160k new. People have been very tempted by the GTS and it DOES look nice, but I would surely wait.

Time is on my side since I in no means need this car I have the z06 and a streetbike to mess with even though I barely have time from work as is !

Fast forward three years .. and those prices are nearly the same but the car is older .
Why ? CPO became the logical choice and the used market strengthened .
Since every day changes one can only look at today and if i had to buy a 997S or GtS Porsche TODAY .. I wouldn't .
The used prices are too high .
The new discounts aren't good enough .
Good cars are still in inventory but to find the ideal option config is getting harder and the best ones get less discounts.
A new GtS is just too expensive and not exclusive enough (only to be replaced by a 991 which costs less ).
So what is a deal (in my opinion) ?
The 08 Gt2 .
The 2011 Gt3RS ( costs as much as a 991 being used with CPO ) .
The 2010 Turbo PDK.
Those cars are not in the Op's budget.
Waiting costs nothing.
There was a time when the used car pricing was incredible .Oct 2008 - March 2009 placed the 07 Turbo at 90K and a 1 year old (2007) 997S ranged from the upper 50's to low 60's .

my friend has a car shop which is thriving because people get repairs done where as in the past they may have just purchased a new vehicle when the current vehicle ages
'11 gt3 rs car is a minimum $130K or so. i know you want one but those new 997.2 RS cars are not cheap and everyone who tracks wants one and prices are quite firm on them. i do not think they are bargain. '08 gt2 cars were available in good numbers this summer but they are also all gone now imho.
He already has one car , one insurance bill and one item of depreciation . There's a difference between a need and a want. To pull money out of savings to buy a "want" and accept overpriced cost as the price of the toy .. makes no financial sense to me .. but that's just my opinion .. and whatever he chooses I'd wish him well.
very true the used car market did strengthen as a whole with ties to the poor economy... in general people purchasing used cars made more sense as well as people maintaining there current cars versus getting new cars...

Keep in mind .. the seller may ask a lot of money ,but that doesn't mean they get it . Also keep in mind that the guy who can buy a Gt2 .. usually can afford a new one . . That's why they have more trouble selling the used ones .
The 130+K market is comprised of a different type of shopper .

And I'd probably put any expense on a car beyond say $20K or $30K more in the category of want than need. The sticker on my 911 was $117K, which means a lot of want!
No disagreement on these details, I just wanted to note the general point. Lots of us decide to stop waiting and pull the trigger on these things when we tell ourselves that life is short and we're not getting any younger.

my whole point is since its not necessary I would rather wait and put a larger deposit, keeping my payment lower thus allowing more cash flow each month
