Do I go new or used? questions / opinions

Hey everyone !

currently have a 08 z06 vette which I love to death!

anyway been considering picking up a 997 C2 or C2S coupe 6-speed of course

Now here is my question:

How is the maintenance on these ?

Do I buy new or used? (from a Porsche dealer of course)
I pretty much want no options in it so do I go and get a new one (2011) and get it at the 78 or 92 msrp?

or do I pick up a used one that possibly has some more options in it for a better price ... I have seen 08-09 for 60-70k (under 20k miles)

very torn on what I would want to do ... I still owe a little bit on the Z06 so I do have some time but I am trying to figure out what option is the best bet

What is your budget? Coming from a Z06 you will want the "S" for sure, maybe even a GTS.

New or Used

If you do proper diligence and buy a recent model year with CPO, you're likely to get much better value than buying new - with full warranty protection.

Go '09 or later. You'll get a 997.2 that way. And there's a noticeable difference from a 997.1. I've had both.

09 And up is the 997.2 vs the 997.1 which are 08 and earlier. The 997.2 Carrera S has 30 more HP, new motor with no IMS, DFI, plus some other odds and ends. I'd get an 09 S with a few more miles but CPO. No difference really from 09-11. Also PDK was first introduced in 09. Although 08 and 09 look similar, there is a pretty big difference. If you want PDK, make sure you get Sport Chrono, it's a must.

thank you !

Definitely not PDK or auto... only 6-speeds for me

In fact only wanting a 6-speed proves to be hard to find these days... all of these cars seem to go towards F1, SMG, PDK, etc; Given they are quicker ...its just not as much fun IMO

+1 on all of this advice. Go 09 with 6 speed and save some money over new. CPO is the way to go.

Neither .
Wait until the 991 (due in February ) and then decide .

Besides .. a relatively new 997S as a daily driver over a three year old vette ?

If your finances require saving up, I'd lean towards either just sticking with the Z06 alone or replacing it with a 911 of your choice. Both cars are in the same general category, so I'm not sure there's much value in having both at the same time for your situation. A sedan, SUV, etc. would complement the Z06 more than a 911.

I am simply saving to put a larger down payment down then I would have to... why pay 2k a month when I can pay 1k a month keep better cash flow moving

I never buy new for high end cars anymore. After seeing the depreciation hit after selling two high end cars, I started looking at used cars. For many people, their Porsches, Ferraris, etc are only weekend cars and are meticulously kept. Look at 2-3 yo 997 turbos, there are some that are 40-50 grand off MSRP.

Also, as said above, I would wait until the 991 comes out. The 997 will drop further in price.

i would agree with this timing but imho on current market best car to buy is a GTS. I amnot sure if many of them will go for resale even when 991 will come out. So i would guess may be dealers will put some incentive on GTS which are still left at that time, but it is big IF as those cars sell relatively well.

if you have a budget i would not wait ang would search for nice new GTS with sport chrono and SPASM suspension options. regular PASM sits higher and does not have LSD - but that new 997.2 SPASM is very good. it is one heck of a package and price is nice, there were plenty of those GTS cars in 105-110K range around. Make sure you also get one with navigation and bluetooth/ipod option as it is not easy to retrofit apparently.

if you do not have budget for new GTS - then shop about for '09+ DFI cars with manual 6sp, they are mostly nice. I would not bother with 08 or older cars now, they have to omany engine issues compared to newer DFI cars and electronics are inferior, their time is gone.
