I really want a GTS, but i need a back seat for my little ones, so that car is out. I like the widebodies, so perhaps i go with a 4. Targa could be interesting.

In all cases, i will be looking for a pdk (for wife) with sports chrono. I want pasm and sport exhaust as well. I can take or leave most other options. I've never had a white porsche, so i've had my eyes on those recently. I wish the porscheusa site had a better search capability for new cars - would make it easier to find.

 

Someone correct me if I am wrong, I am pretty sure the GTS has backseats, even if it didn't like the GT3 you could ad them. I am a used car guy cause I don't like to take the initial depreciation hit. If had gone new I would have definitely chosen the GTS. I believe if you go for a new 997 now it should be a GTS as it represents the "best" value and its a hell of a package

 

GTS is standard w/o backseats, but zero dollar option to add back in. I've only seen ONE in dealers inventory (not local)...almost ALL are being ordered with rear seats.

 

WAIT til u see the 991 in person.

997 is great but u may like the 991 more...

last thing u want is a buyer's regret on a 100k car.

if u choose 997 later, u can still get a nice selection and a greater discount at that time.

 

Agree on the test drive, there's no subsitute for that. Of course, OP should also be attentive to other differences between the cars beyond just more power (stiffer suspension, handling, appearance, sound, etc.).

 

+1 to these comments. I can't think of any reason why you wouldn't want to see and drive the 991 before you make up your mind. If anything, pricing will be better on the left over 997.2's in Feb than they are now. As for 10 % , that should be your worst case as the old cars will depreciate more than that as soon as you drive it off the lot.

 

Has anyone even considered the fact that it might take over a year or two to get a 911 in a cabriolet, or to spec one out with the amount of options a current one has.

If you go to the configurator on Porsche' site you will see it's very limited. No aerocup kits, and things along those lines. It's gonna take years to get that stuff put together.

Maybe they will surprise us and add to the "build your Porsche" choices, but as of now, it's basic, basic, basic. I wouldn't order one now with the options that are available.

 

I have seen multiple (5-10) GTS in person or on the net, all had back seats...I think most dealers order them with the seats optioned in.

 

I agree. There will still be plenty of low mile and possibly new 997s around when the 991 launches.

I could have gotten an even more discount on my GTS if i would have waited....but i can't wait any longer so i bought it

 

Life is short so you gotta' do what you gotta' do. I was going to wait until the "perfect" car but I happen to stumble across a low mileage 06 carrera and said "what the heck".. no regrets.

 

My plan has already begun. I want the 991, but don't want to buy new. So, I bought a 2006 low mileage base Carrera as my "bridge car." In 3 years, I'll get the 2013 version of a 991 S or Turbo (if the economy get better!). I am having fun with my used Carrera. I got it cheap, so mods and personalization are keeping me happy for now! If it keeps 80% of it's value in 3 years, I will be ecstatic!

 

I want add my .02 since I am in the same boat as you. I am a new car guy and almost bought a GTS because they gave me a fat discount. But at the end of the day, I waited for the 991, which I am so glad I did. It is a decision that I don't regret at all. I ended up really liking the new looks of the 991 and the performance improvements are astounding since the 991s laps the n'ring in 7:40!

If I were you, I'd just wait. There will be big discounts on the horizon very very soon on the 997. And if they sell out of whatever you want, think of it as a sign from the universe to get a 991. Win win situation.

 

I believe you should get the car you have been longing for. Just because the introduction of the 991 is in the near future, you shouldn't let that hold considerable weight in your decision.
