2008 Carrera 4 Squeak While Letting Out Clutch

Anyone have/had a similar issue? If so what was the fix. In my situation, only happens while pulling away from stop, while in first gear, and only when on an incline. Sound (squeak) is very brief, and seems to happen whether engine/trans is warm or cold. Thoughts? thanks!!!

I have the same issue that pops up now and again. It's probably a glazed clutch or the throw-out bearing making the noise. It sometimes corrects itself after some aggressive driving.

sizquick thanks for feedback. I am new owner and could be prior owner granny'd it. What causes glazing on clutch? Better, how do I prevent glazing?

Not an expert but I believe glazing comes from excessive heat from slipping. Stop and go traffic for sometimes 30+ minutes seems to aggravate the situation for me.

sounds like glazing to me. Try and drive pretty aggressively for a few days while the weather is warm. Downshifting helps this.

When pulling away, I've found that this car requires very little throttle. It is really hard to stall this light of a car. I was used to a BWM and Corvette where there seemed to require quite a bit more throttle and some minor slipping of the clutch to get rolling. I'll bet the previous owner slipped the clutch quite a bit or was in stop/go traffic quite a bit. Or had some really bad test drivers when selling the car.

The 997 is very compliant when you drive away smoothly. Get the clutch good and scrubbed down then take it easy on the clutch when pulling away from a stop and it should quiet down for you.

I have had the same noise.
But it only happens when the car is warm.
It creaks on the way in and out. I don't hear it much when driving but sitting in the garage it is loud.

I brought it to my dealer. I asked them to check the linkage as a friend told me that there is a slave cylinder that could be making the noise. They said the noise was coming from the inside.
So they opened it up and said the pressure plate was done. So they replaced that and the clutch at 40,000 miles. $2,200.

Problem solved.
Then a month later the sound returned. Not happy with the dealer.

I have since spoken with an independent shop and they said that they know exactly what the issue is. The slave cylinder in the linkage. There is a little plastic fitting that gets a burr on it. For about $250 they open that up and sand it smooth and lubricate it.

I hope your issue is just glazing. If the other suggestions don't work. Ask your mechanic to look at the linkage.

Good luck.

I had the same noise and it drove me nuts!
It is the clutch material Porsche used. I finally got them to admit it and they replaced the clutch with the upgraded one. Your dealer needs to be on your side, as you need them to help you with PNA. At first they replaced the throw out bearing -it wasn't it.

Take a look at my older posts.

Good luck!

Appreciate feedback ... garage tried to replicate issue; no joy. Garage did get squeak from steering rack and ordered new rack under warranty. Moment I got the car back, I was able to get the clutch squeak to return. Now that the weather has turned a little chilly, I am unable to get make the clutch squeak ... I did perform spirited driving recently; maybe that removed the glazing and problem solved ... ???
