New engine is in!
Well, as many know, I experienced catastrophic engine failure due to a failed IMS bearing. The only option was a new engine. So, after much hand wringing, and some negotiating with my dealership and PCNA, a new 3.8 Carrera S engine is in the car.
No more SuperCharger, so I am down 150HP from what I've been used to, but I gain a new two-year unlimited mile warrantee.
It's my first new Porsche engine, as I've always bought "pre-owned" cars, so I'm breaking it in. My tech says just avoid redline for the first 1,000 miles. He says much of the break in is already done in Germany before the engines are shipped. I'll be cautious though, change the oil after 2k miles, and keep it under 5k RPM's for the first 2k miles.
This was not an inexpensive ordeal, but it's great to be back behind the wheel, and the peace of mind that comes with a new engine with updated IMS bearings, and a warrantee, is terrific!
Time to edit my signature though...

congrats. i would advice to flush off oil at 500 miles, then flush again after 1000 miles. at 500 miles you will most likely have metal residue in the filter, at 1000 it should be almost clear.
i also do not think it will matter much to stay off redline after first 500 miles. best way to break it in is to get on a day trip and travel 300-400 miles during that day at steady 3k rpm on a highway.

Congratulations on the new engine. Break in is a pain when going by the book.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that you were going with the L&N IMS bearing. Can you confirm this?
Most reccomendations I've read indicate varying the rpm and not driving at a constant rpm.

With respect, that's absolutely not what the factory or the manual recommend.
