New Member, New Owner, 2007 997
Good Morning.
My name is Mark and I live in Los Angeles. I am the proud new owner of a 2007 997 with 14k miles with Tiptronic and a happy new member to be part of this group. Hope to take pics and post soon.
The car had an older female owner, and judging by the options on the car, the radio station presets the service record and low miles on the car the car was not tested much.
My question is.. my car is tiptronic, and when I drive a little aggressively and spirited, I notice some smells. Also, it feels like the shifting is pretty relaxed and not as aggressive as I expect.
I am wondering, if my car was owned by and driven by an granny and was never broken in, is that what I smelling now? Is there anything I can/should do to break in the car if it hasn't been before, and also is it possible to teach the transmission to shift more aggressively, since it seems from the car materials that the transmission learns and adapts to the drivers style.
Again, a pleasure to join in your company and I am hopeful to both receive and share information for a long time.

Congrats! and welcome to the madness... I would assume that most things would be broken in by 14k, but if you start pounding on machinery at 1k or 50k you will smell something! The clutch, brakes etc. are moving metal parts that create friction and heat dissipation. The smells are associated with the symphony of mechanical movement. I'm sure others will chime in.
Enjoy in good health!
PS. is there not some sport mode you can put it into? Another point is this car probably has some kind of TPS (throttle position sensor) that may be reset for a more aggressive driving style. Most cars, you put in position 1 of the key floor the gas and this resets the TPS to most aggressive. maybe in the p-car this is different.

I suspect most of the odor comes from the rubber off the rear tires. This is typical of 'soft compound' rubber and 'aggressive' driving.
Enjoy the ride and smells.

As for smells coming from the car's interior, you might try Febreeze.
Enjoy the Carrera!

Cosmoline is the anti corrosion inhibitor applied to the exhaust system. I still smell it on mine after after shutdown w/26k miles on the clock.
