The Boys of Bonneville

Gents, Since I suspect most of you are motorheads in one form or another (why would you be hangin' out in here if you weren't..), I thought you might be interested in this. I don't remember where I first saw it posted (it may have been in here), but someone posted a link to a DVD titled "The Boys of Bonneville". It's a story about Ab Jenkins, from Salt Lake City, who was solely responsible for putting the Bonneville salt flats on the map.

It tells of how Ab and his son Marvin built the M.o.r.m.o.n (censored?) Meteor, the Duesenberg (first) powered car to set land speed records at Bonneville in the '30s and '40s. It tells how Ab and Marvin, with the assistance of Augie Duesenberg, set many, many land speed records, some of which remain to this day.

Since I've been a fan of Bonneville land speed records since I was a kid growing up in Denver (anybody remember Art Arfons and the "Green Monster"?.. I do), I bought a copy.

Tonight I took time to sit down and watch it. I gotta tell you, it's one of the best biographies I've ever seen.

I won't go into all the details, but I will tell you that it's worth every penny of the few dollars it takes to buy a copy.

Check out the trailer here: http://www.boysofbonneville.com/

Oh.. and you might want to watch it alone...

NC997,

Where are you at in the Sandhills area of NC? When I come home on leave i'll be visiting family in Robbins and likely go to Bragg for a bit as well.
