I was just quoted mid $500 for my 09 TT for its 20K. Might end up being a tad bit less because I'm not having them flush the brakes. They also offered PCA discount on top of that. My car is still under warranty, so I'm having it done at the Dealership just to be save. If something major goes wrong down the road Porsche can deny your warranty claim because you didn't have your service work done per their requirements/specs.

Next year I'll start hitting my local Porsche Certified Indy shops for maintenance & upkeep. Closer, easier, and cheaper.

For $500 you get a dealer service and a real check for issues. Not that much more than an indi. It is definitely worth it if you are under warranty, which I see you commented that you were not. A good dealer will pay closer attention to your car than most indi's and would point out issues others might miss. Check to see if the brake flush was included. I had a dealer do the 20k and an indi do the brake flush. Worked out really well.
he didnt quoted brake flush in that. he replied not needed for me since earlier owner did 10K service with them and that includes the brake flush.

Pretty likely they misquoted you then. They simply couldn't add up that much labor for a 20k service without the brake flush. For your local reference, I had mine done at New Country Porsche in Greenwich. Expensive, but at least honest.

Gary, it's obvious from reading some of your previous posts that you're highly educated. However, hot and greasy? An afternoon?

It's primarily an oil change, not an engine overhaul;
It's a 2-3 hour job;
The OP lives in NJ. FYI, it's not that hot there this time of year.

I'm sure the industry sponsors who read your post, like Ryan at Suncoast Parts (whom I talked to by phone last week), really appreciate being referred to as "paid minions."

I think doing simple maintenance on my car is a treat, I enjoy doing it, and look at it as a hobby more then a chore. I do the oil and brakes on all three of our cars. The money saved is a bonus, and usually gets used on mods or consumables (tires).

I have had a number of problems with work that the dealer has done in the past, and find that I pay more attention to the details the "minion" does.

My sentiments exactly.

I once had a Porsche dealer service shop forget to fasten up a clamp on a water line. I drove for a couple of miles before my temp went sky high and the car shut down. No damage just a flat bed ride back to their shop.

Tasks like oil, filters, brakes, etc etc are simple and relatively fast DIY jobs. Require the minimum of time, tools & expertise. As stated the plus is you know it's done right.

Ah well, most of us are, except the occasional trust fund baby. It's a service economy. I must suppose that Ryan expects to get paid for the service he provides to us.

I felt the same way about my heart surgery. On mature consideration, I declined to attempt it on myself. My cardio team certainly hoped to get paid for that. The surgeon threw it away on an MB CLS, but what the hell, he's still a nice guy. His pay, his choice. Says he doesn't have time to really enjoy his cars.

Guess he just needs coddling after a hard day as a minion.

575, but I also get a loaner car while it's being serviced. Not bad overall

wow, $950 for a 20k service is pretty difficult to swallow down for sure. Is there a chance you can speak to their managers or something that might help a bit? I had one of my Lexus serviced last year and it cost me nearly $500 CAD and I was not aware of that charge as I was chatting with my salesman during the time I made the payment. Going home, saw the bill and I phone back the dealer asking to speak to their GM. Told him that I had phoned a few different Lexus service departments and found out they were $90 more compare to the next highest price. At the end, he gave me $90 back and offered me a free injector cleaning service which he claimed to be worth $200. This spring when I was back for another service, the service manager offered me the complete service ($130) for free and thank me for NOTIFYING them the over-charge which they did not know. Not sure if it will work for you, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try?

Last car I worked on had a breaker point ignition. That said, I did the cabin filter and air filter myself. Took less than a 1/2 hour w/simple tools. The oil change is not worth doing at home. Easier to pay a indy shop - most of their cost is parts. And FWIW, I contacted several nearby dealerships first for a quote on the oil change and to set up an appointment. None returned my call. Only time I'll go to one is if it's for a warranty claim.

Forget the dealer, went to a reputable indy shop and got a quote of 415!

my old tech at Mckenna (Ken Yoon) just opened shop. Owner James used to be service manager at Downtown P.

I don't know what good rates are, but have always taken my car to Ken, so he knows it. He just replaced my clutch for about 1800.

oh i forgot. i replaced my RMS at the same time. no seepage from or bad signs from the IMS, so that's a good thing!!!

They both commented that they hadn't seen a failed IMS (in their experience) on the M97 to date. James has 2 boxsters (986), and I think the IMS was replaced on one of them.
