Big thanks to Ryan at Suncoast re: 997.1 Rear LED Install

I was trying to make rear LED lights function on a 2008 GT2, and was running into some snags. I confirmed the vehicle had the latest front and rear end control units, and everything was coded correctly via PIWIS for LED and still wasn't happening. Contacted Ryan today at Suncoast and he was very helpful in emailing me the final piece of the puzzle, which was to swap two pins in a connector on the front end control unit. Turns out the control unit has the correct outputs for LED and normal bulbs, but the pins have to be moved from the regular bulb output to the LED output. Once moved, worked great! Hopefully this bit of info will help others who have run into this, although it sounds like their new FVD harness will eliminate this potentially frustrating step.

What is the part number on your control unit? I was under the impression that the control units were different in a 997.1.

Front end control unit is 997-618-513-01 and rear end control unit is 997-618-260-08. Even with correct piwis coding, there was still 2 wiring pins that needed to be swapped to LED turn signals.

Would you be able to recall which pin (bulb) position of the harness needs to be moved to which pin (led) position?

I have the pin numbers and I believe wire colors written down in a notebook. I will get them for you tomorrow and pass the info along.

I am experiencing similar issues. I'm pretty sure that both front and rear control units are set to 'LED', but I am still getting the timing mismatch everytime I use the turn signals and a error message on the dash (which goes away after a couple seconds, but annoying nonetheless). Is this something you took to a dealership (regarding the pin positions) and resolved it with their techs after Ryan passed on the info?

There are some pins that needed to be swapped in certain scenarios. We have been selling the FVD modules because of the difficulty using the genuine Porsche parts.

Here is what we have been told from other dealerships:
- 2 PINS connectors will required moving, "pin B14 to B34 & pin B6 to B21")

- Dealer in Beverly hills claims that for 2008 TT, he had to swap pin a11 to a31, and A42 to A36.

Hopefully that will help you get it sorted out.

Here are my notes from the actual install:

First make sure the modules are correct.
Front end: 997-618-513-01
Rear End: 997-618-260-08
Pin swap is as follows on connector A (Blue connector)
A11 to A36
A42 to A31
Wire colors for A42 are Black/Green
Wire colors for A11 are Black/White

The above notes were used after some trial and error on a 2008 997 GT2. I don't recall the exact designation of the pins as far as their function, but this is where I ended up going once getting some firm direction from Ryan regarding pins needing to be swapped. Once this was done, and the modules coded for LED, everything worked perfectly with no warnings.

Thanks both Ryan & speedemon. I'll go off those instructions and see how it goes. Cheers!

Hi Guys, I performed the conversion a while back approx 4-5 months ago everything works perfect, blinkers/brakes etc... but until a few days ago I had never noticed that my fog lights and front trunk lid light don't work, I checked the wiring diagrams and the pins for the fogs and trunk light are at the same position on the updated front module, I still had my old front module so I plugged it in and the fogs and trunk lid lights work, this tells me possibly pins need to be moved or something has anyone encountered this problem before?

Thanks

Hi, I've done recently a front bumper conversion from a 997.1 C4S to 997.2. I just changed the front Module (997-618-512-01)in the trunk w/o any Pin change and I encountered the same problem. No trunk and fog light, after changing back to my old front module both lights were back. Unfortunately the fog lights are the DRL in the 997.2 C. So with the new module I have neither DRL nor fog/trunk lights and with the old module I need to switch on fog lights for DRL which I don't want or I install an additional modul. Any updates on your problem, did the lights (fog/trunk) work after a Pin change and which pins have you changed?
Thanks

I also have a 997.1 C4, bought the OEM 997.2 tails from Ryan @ Suncoast (he's very helpful). My car has the updated rear control unit (ending in 08). Do I just need to have the dealer code my rear unit to LED? I'm currently getting every error possible. Also, why switch the front control unit? Seems like it may only be necessary if you have a turbo / GT2... Any help would be appreciated!

My front conversion was seamless, just bought the mini wire looms and did the "$2 DRL hack" and front DRLs light up in home position.
