Just yesterday, my passenger side power seat quit properly going forward and backward on the rail. What appears to be happening is that the side closest to the driver is moving on the rail, but the other side isn't, which makes it cant side to side. The seat back angle still adjusts fine.
Any ideas? Thanks.
EDIT: I've discovered the problem. There appears to be something broken-- perhaps a bolt that is encased in the long black tube. Anyone seen this before and is it something that I can fix myself? I've attached a picture of what I think is the problem.

I'm having a hard time telling for sure from that diagram. There is a black tubular shaped thing that runs in the groove of that cross bracket that appears to be broken on the exterior side of the seat. I can't imagine it would be too hard to fix if I just had the part and could take the seat out.

exact thing happened to me, and dealership ordered new track and repaired under warranty.
You've got 4 bolts and I believe 2 connectors that need to be removed/disconnected. Try to get the seat as close to centered on the rails as possible. This will make getting the seat in and out easier. Use towels or blankets to protect the console and door sills. The seats are a bit heavy and awkward to remove. If you can, get a helper.
This won't help you fix the problem with your seat but my passenger seat started acting up and when I moved it to the most forward position strange things started to happen. I was preparing for the eventuality of a flat tire and was attempting to put a rear wheel and tire into the back seat (the reason for moving the seat forward) .
When the seat was returned to the normal position all of the strange things stopped happening??? Drove by the Porsche dealer and explained the problem... they took the car into service and told me to go have a cup of coffee while I waited. Shortly afterwords the tech came into the lobby and handed me a large jar of NUTELLA (a chocolate spread) with several dents in its plastic container. Turns out that the jar had fallen out of a grocery bag and up under the seat. When the seat was moved forward the jar pulled on a wiring harness and knocked out several functions. I can't imagine what a mess I would have had it the jar had exploded in the heat of summer and the pressure of the seat squeezing that plastic container..
I'm guessing that this problem has never happened before and will never happen again..
EVER!!!!!
Hi I just bought a 997s with the same issue, I took the seat out and worked out it was the cable, but the end of the cable is still in the slider mechanism and I can't ge it out . How did you fix yours ? Also where did you buy your replacement parts ?
Any ideas? Thanks.
I brought it to my local independent mechanic and he ordered and installed the new cable. I can't remember the exact cost, because it was awhile ago, but it wasn't outrageous at all-- under $300 total.
I think I have the same issue with my passenger power seat in my 997.1.
I moved the seat all the way to the back and it doesn't move forward any more, rather it only swings, i.e. one rail moves a bit but the other one is stuck.
Underneath the seat I found a bottle, which I wonder whether it's the reason that caused this.
Funny, my car has a similar problem. I can't get it to move forward or back. It doesn't seem like it's even trying to move, though? All of the other seat functions work as they're supposed to. Taking it to my indy mechanic next week for IMS upgrade; I'll get it looked at, too.
So, I solved the issue with my power seat that I described above. As you will see on the second image I uploaded, the shaft which comes out of the motor and plugs into the right side was not making proper contact. After taking it out and re-plugging it in that hole and pushing it a bit, the seat started working. So, seems like this bendable shaft is the issue in most cases.

are you talking about the 2nd image, describing that thing with the yellow wires? you unplugged it and plugged back in and it worked? did you have to take the seat out?
