Your thoughts on '05 w/only 7K miles....
That's another factor that had run through my brain.....do the LN upgrade and still have a major issue and Porsche denies any warranty work because of after market parts.
I wouldn't be surprised if that voids the CPO. Not a smart move IMO. I'd do it but would wait for factory backing to expire. If you do get to doing it the price from my Indy was only about $1300-not too bad. My '05 had the later style bearing so the LNupgrade was not an option when my pressure plate failed.
I just checked the CarFax on the '08 that's at the dealer and it shows the engine "was removed for repair/replacement" at 29,000 miles, and it is not offered with a CPO.
Still have the itch for a water cooled? 1.5 yrs ago I bought an 05 C2S with approx 40K miles with no warranty from a private party. Current mileage is 53K. Other than normal maintenance, all good. Get a 997.2 if you want to eliminate the IMS issue.
I like low mileage vehicles that pass with a clean PPI and CPO is even better. You can price out an extended warranty if that's your desire but may be pricey.
IMO I'd look for an S with mileage you're comfortable with and of course in your price range. IMO buying used is great when you put in the time. You will find someone who paid a lot for various options that are now leveled out with time/depreciation, e.g. full leather, upgraded seats, deviated stiching, etc. Finally, test drive some S models with sport exhuast, definitely makes a difference.
Good Luck

Little Rock AR is known as "the rock" and believe me, my search goes across the country since there is NO dealership in Arkansas. This will be my 16th Porsche over the years so I've bought and sold cars from all over. Just sold my 911 Outlaw and thinking about a 997. There is an incredible 993 that is waiting for me if I decide to stay on the "air cooled" team!
Hey, given your history, why not get the '05? You've got CPO, drive it for 2 years under warranty - no worrries. Who cares about the IMS, it's covered. Sell it before the CPO expires. A .2 is WAY more money. Heck, when the RMS starts leaking (you know it will) complain to the dealer that it's dripping in the garage. They'll pull the engine and replace it. Porsche provides great coverage. Main thing is if the car is the right color and has the right equipment. A CPO'd '05 would be a great way to get into a 997. Heck, after 2 years, the car is still going to be in the $30k's. Really low cost of ownership.
sounds expensive for an '05. plus you said your 'sort of interested'... i hear that as 'its not really exactly what your looking for? keep looking to find the one you "know" you want...
I paid $42k for an 07S w/ cpo. I know i got a smoking deal....but still $45k sounds really high. You should probably confirm also when the cpo offering runs out... i think dealers have only up to 7 years from build date to be able to offer the cpo...that '05 must be getting close.

oh..forgot to mention the mileage...it was about 51k. Still....it was insanely loaded
sport chrono, adaptive seats, sport wheel, sport exhaust, 2 tone full leather, more
you'll know the right car when you find it.... that '05 is temping with such low miles... but your still paying a premium price for it... just my .02 :~)

I'd definitely stay away from a car with that few miles and look for something that has gotten closer to 5k miles of use per year.
