997 PCM Phone
Has anyone sorted anything out regarding the phone options for the 997?
The PCM in the center console is designed to hold a sim card for a GSM phone. It supports text messaging on the screen. It appears, from looking at the UK site, that there's a telephone module that installs to make the telephone features active. I would guess it installs under the hood where the Nav module is installed. You also need the passive handset.
But the US site doesn't show any of this. It only shows the cell phone holder, which isn't available yet either. I have no idea how well this will integrate with PCM.
Does anyone have any better data on this than I do?

Kurt,
i just checked for Kokoine this morning. it's very pricy consider everything is prewired on all 997s.
the kit is retail for 1,446.00 plus required 155.00 for the fiber optic cables. 2 different cables one for cars have CD changer & one without. so the total is 1,601.00. it requires dealer install to use the Porsche tester to finish the final coding process. therefore the install labor can be much different from dealer to dealer. don't be surprised if dealer wants 2,500.00 installed. this is my first hand info so could it some off but not far from it.

Does the kit include the telephone module and the passive handset?

i don't think so but i haven't seen it yet. i believe what it is is just converting the entire radio/sound system to ur phone since it has a SIM card slot. i don't see any reason why it'll include a extra phone unit or handset. the idea is cool though to have a SIM slot in the dash but the new school bling is the BlueTooth which our cars don't have. i don't see people would want to take their SIM card out everytime when they get into the car. don't know about people but the SIM card in my phone is pretty hard to come out...

I'd like to integrate a phone, better yet an iPod. I declined the phone on my C55, $2500 for a V60i??? Nice try. On the other hand my wifes 745Li included a phone. I don't really get their marketing strategy here, tunes are a must and phones are pretty important to especially in this demo. Good thing the car kicks ***, as obviously no one is buying them for the amenities.

I got the punk-*** flyer from bev hills porsche saying that the PCM phone was finally available.
I then called Arling for the 411 (see above). the price is insulting so Arling & I decided to blow it off until the price gets more reasonable or they get their **** together.
another option though is to just get a whole new phone account, and leave the SIM card in there (not having to swap out everytime you get in/out of the whip). But again this costs even more, plus the hassle of 2 different cell #'s. pain in the *** either way I guess.
what is it with these humps???.......I agree with KURT RSF, the benz phone offered on my CL500 was like $2500 for a $99 motorola chunk-o-****. I obviously said "PASADENA, fellas".
why are they ******* us luxury car buyers???.....because we can afford it if we are even entertaining the thought of $100K + cars.
I guess you cant blame them for trying to grind the hell out of those of us fortunate enough to own these pricy toys....this IS a business at the end of the day.......no?
But hells no, $2 kittens + for an integrated phone with no hardware??????
sack these, Porsche. That is foul.
