997 simple purchase dilemma!!!
997 simple purchase dilemma!!!
I have a deposit on 2 cars and have struggled making the final decision, help/advice much appreciated!!!!
1) 997.1 C2S, black on black, Tiptronic, 21k miles, 1 owner, CPO @ Dealer, loaded, even has PCCB
2) 997.1 C2S, Slate on Tan, 6-spd, 55k miles, new clutch, 3 owners, all purchased, serviced and traded @ local dealer, car is also CPO (doesn't have PCCB)
Biggest problems are Tip v.s 6-spd, & mileage, otherwise they are identical to me....HELP PLEASE
I only keep sports cars for about 1 season and have an S5 for DD, although I will still rack up some miles, prob 10-15k+ easy in the driving season w/ rallies

Exactly!
If option 1 had 6-spd it would be done deal for sho! That being said I know not many are fans of the tip, but why? For background my last car was an F1 Maserati QP and I LOVED the F1 trans, granted it does have a clutch, but are the tips really that bad?
If so I may have to opt for 6-spd just for resale reasons! (I know either will cost me money if sold/traded in fall, but if one is drastically different it would make decision easier)

I have a tip 997tt. Love it. Much better than the 04 996 6 speed. I would go with a one owner lower mileage car. PCCB would be the only drawback. They are VERY expensive to replace.
Tip or 6 speed would depend on were you live and traffic. Traffic in Houston sucks at times and a 6 speed makes your life hell.
If you are just starting to do Drivers Eds then a tip will be one less thing to divert to attention to.

Depending on how good of a price you get etc....you'll have a lot harder time reselling a 3 owner car than a 1 owner, let alone the higher mileage, just something to consider

All great input, thanks everyone!
Both cars have Sports Chrono/PCM etc, and both cars are Exactly the same price after negotiations. It does sound like the 1 owner, low mileage Tip is probably the way I will go. I have an S5 for DD but I will still rack up miles on 997 since I love to drive and do a bunch of rallies each year.
Function, good heads up on the PCCB, dealer said "you shouldn't ever have to replace these brakes unless you're tacking the car" I'm not buying that, lol, but don't the brakes have to be a certain % wear to go through Porsche CPO? That is one thing I def want to consider!

there is a site called automaticonline.com... maybe some tip lovers there!
traffic, no traffic, stop and go, highway... I would never give up my manual transmission... says the guy that drives his car every day... 500 miles a week.

and still I don't mind auto if it is a good system, ie; I have drivin ZF auto Maserati GranTurismo's and they are a blast to drive! It was hard to feel any noticable difference compared to my F1 Quattroprte (aside from rolling on a hill or low gear). My S5 does leave a little to be desired in Auto, so this is the biggest reason I am on the fence.

I don't have any personal experience with the PCCB's but from what I've read on here your dealer is correct. Well never say never but they should last a very very long time.
Also if you were going to track the car you can pull the ceramic rotors off and use iron. It's still more expensive than regular S brake rotors but not CRAZY like the ceramic.

I am a fan of the 6 speed, but other than that, the first car sounds like a keeper. Good luck with it.
Don't worry about PCCB. Getting them on a used car is a bonus because you are paying far less for them than the original owner. IF they ever wear out (assuming you are not tracking), then just replace them with iron - problem solved.

hahahaha
Just scared myself silly by reading posts on engine failures/IMS issues!!!
Anyway, more fuel for the Tiptronic fire I guess, have to guess there are less issues when you don't miss gears, then again this seems to affect low mileage cars more! I remember one horrendous missed shift in my last 996 getting off the highway, bad news bears!
