Question Another Nav/PCM update question.

So, I've read through several of the Technical Bulletins and followed the instructions to identify the currently installed software. I have the following displayed on the PCM when I scroll through the options:

SW Version 3.2
PCM - (Target & Actual) 05024CD1 / 3905
System - (Target & Actual) 04514BD1 / 5104
Nav -(Target & Actual) 00179159 / 4004

Phone-Target: 05034B54 / 0305
Phone-Actual: 04464AD2 / 4604

From the bulletins I reviewed, I have not been able to identify what is the most current version of each system and what I should be aiming for. Although, it appears the previous owner has performed at least some of the needed upgrades on my 2005 997 Cab.

Anyone better versed in PCM/NAV upgrades please point me to information I can research or simply tell me what are the most current versions of all the software. Where can I source/purchase the CD/DVD's and if anyone knows why my phone software is showing different values (target vs. actual).

I appreciate your assistance, thanks in advance!

Jason.

I think you're up to the latest level for PCM Model Level B (05024xxx). I think you can run the latest NAV DVD (if you choose to) w/o having to upgrade your PCM to Level C (05395xxx). I think the latest NAV DVD is 08/2007. It works on MY 2005 to 2008. There might be a later version I just don't know.

PDM2.1 Levels
Standard version: 04035xxx
Model Level A:04202xxx
Model Level B: 05024xxx
Model Level C: 05395xxx

I too have a 2005 (early build) that had (before I upgraded) the original PCM (04035xxx) software. I had to upgrade it to use the latest (at that time) NAV DVD. I suspect your car has had the PCM replaced at some time for one reason or another. Early PCMs were replaced for a number of reasons (ie. no phone feature, no MP3 playback and of course failures).

NAV DVDs unfortunately can only be purchased from Porsche. You can try an eBay seller but it's risky since most of them are bootlegged, bogus or faulty. To be honest unless you rely on your NAV for daily commutes, trips or live in a newly developed area it might be a waste of both time and money. I find my iPhone does a better job for me.

Thanks for the reply, I will certainly purchase the DVD from Porsche before I'd get some basement knock off or copy that could be faulty, didn't know if there were any other distributors available. I would also hope that they have a more current NAV DVD available than just 2007, as that is 5 years behind. Not that I rely on it, I'm just **** about keeping software, firmware, etc up with the latest revisions. Old habit from building PC's...

I would like to also look into enabling the PCM in car phone via the SIM card but haven't started to research that yet. Thanks again for the tips!

I just bought the newest Nav CD package from Suncoast. $300 but at least the Nav is up to 2010. I have level C on my PCM so I didn't use the upgrade CD's that came with the kit. If you want to borrow them to update yours I'm ok with that. Check with Suncoast first and see what kit they would sell you and let me know and if it's the same as what's got....CD is on the way to you to update!!

PM me your info.

Make sure the car came w/ option code "666 Telephone module" in order for the sim card / telephone to work.

I purchased the car used, is there anyway I can determine if this option was installed, without having the original sticker?

Porsche knows. A dealer should be able to look it up. Otherwise, there may be a few other sites that can look up that sort of info.

If you have an active SIM card take it out of your phone & put it in the tray/slot & see if it will work. There is an option sticker with the #'s on it & it may be in the owners manual or stuck under the front trunk lid. Look for the "666" code. The way to get a print out via your VIN code is to see your Dealer, Insurance Co., or contact http://www.autoatlanta.com/ or http://www.suncoastporsche.com/

Like said, stick in a SIM card,if you don't have the phone module it will tell you on the NAV screen.
