Unhappy Paint chips...is it just me or we all get them?

Hey guys I'm used to seeing paint chips on the front bumper of the cars, but I noticed that on the 911 that you get them lot more, and especiallly on the hood due to the front shape/low to the ground.

Do you guys see a lot of this as well? If so what so you do you guys do about it (again assuming you haven't clear bra'd the car)

I have clear bra and got one Juuuuuust over the edge of it. Annoying, but the only other option is to wrap the whole stinking front end. The little chip is my reminder that nothing in life is perfect and it's futile to try and keep it perfect.

You have to get a Full Hood. A good in installer will make one on site, as opposed to getting one in a Pre Cut Kit

They are all over my hood too. Now that it's after the fact, what do you guys advise? Do I get them repaired and THEN get the clear bra? Or do I just accept them. TIA.

Paint chips are a fact of life with a 911. Some swear by the clear bra. My thinking is its like people we can try all we want to hide getting old but in the end its a futile effort. Clear bra for sure will prevent but my personal is just enjoy it naturally. The natural beauty of the paint. Chips only add to character and make your car YOUR CAR.

^ got to say I do agree with you're saying to an extent, definitely is a part of the aging process/adds some character as well if you think about...matter of weighing the pros/cons I guess

Felt the same when i first got the pcar. Wanted it to stay as good as it left the showroom. Sure enough after the first spirited drive a paint chip. I was devastated! Hahaha now i feel funny for feeling that way. After 2 years she has more chips, both paint and glass, but she is more beautiful in my eyes everytime i see her. I guess now part of the beauty is knowing i can drive her more confidently and her beauty is now more than skin deep. What porsches are all about.

One way to reduce paint chips is to allow more distant between you and the driver in front of you. I stay clear of any lane with a tractor trailer in it or large truck.

I agree, but this still doesn't stop them all!

That's what clear bra is for. I also installed clear bra on the hood underneath the matte black vinyl wrap.

get the clear bra. a good install makes it almost impossible to tell it's there. it's about 2-3k extra. paint job isn't much cheaper and you may end up with mismatching colors.

it's a personal choice though. completely up to you.

Keep your distance rocks only fly so far (stay ahead of the pack). Paint the hood first then install front end and hood wrap. It doesn't effect the beauty of the paint. It only prolongs it. It's no more expensive to install a new carbon fibre hood than to paint your existing one and blend into the fenders.

Yeah, after 46k miles I have the same problem on my black 997S. My plan is this - touch up the big spots you can see from 5+ feet away. Once it gets bad enough, I'll have a reputable body shop repaint the hood and front bumper, won't drive the car on highway (if much at all) for 60+ days for paint to fully cure, then have the front end wrapped.

I bought my car used with 25k miles, so by then it didn't make sense to wrap a front end with chips already there, so I figure my plan is the next best thing. I plan to keep this car at least 10 years.

Check with your local installers - IMO its best to wrap the whole front clip for the ultimate protection. The cost isnt too bad depending on the part of the country your in.
