hot nikon is infamous around these parts
When my car was new, it seemed to use a lot of oil, maybe 1/2 qt. every 6-700 miles. Now I use 1/2 every 1300-1500. Never any smoke, but I can see a couple of black spots on the gray garage floor.

I wouldn't wait for a check oil warning light. Porsche suggests checking oil level every fuel fill, sound easy enough to me.

If you own a Porsche, you will have oil in the garage! For me, oil consumption leveled out before 10k miles, prob. 7.5-8k.

Do you guys carry an extra bottle of oil in the car just in case it needs to be topped up? My dealer told me I can go back to fill up whatever fluid/oil whenever needed, but I am just curious if the warning signal come on when I am not around town or when they are closed.

I'm glad all 3 of my cars like Mobil 1 0-40. My 997.2 c2 hasn't needed a drop in 4k miles. Still reads right at the top arrow on electronic gauge. BMW likewise. Mini on the other hand needs 1/2 qt every 1k. What is interesting is once it gets about 3/4 qt low it doesnt burn any more. Mini r56 is a well known oil burner.

I've heard recently that Mobil 1 isn't good enough, despite Porsche's recommending it. Some related info here: http://www.lnengineering.com/oil.html

Oil wars are endless. If you drive your car in winter use 0-40 while cold, then 5-50 is good. There is racing 0-50 oil.
For DEs in mid summer heat 15-50 is good.

My '09' C2S used a quart for roughly every 2000 mi. depending on how I drove it. My '11' GTS hasn't used any oil in it's first 5000 miles.

When I change oil I add 7.5 quarts and then take a drive to get the oil fully up to temperature. I then top it off.

Thanks. On my way to pick up a bottle later. I have a couple of those pouch/bags from my sold BMWs. I guess I don't need to throw them away now.

I had the same experience when I bought mine used. I had all the fluids changed just to know where I was baseline with the car. Since that, no real oil demand. I think it might have been some absorbed in the filter and usage.

Maybe oil in the garage but not necessarily oil on the garage floor. Have someone check for RMS or IMS leak.

I just picked up a bottle of Mobil 1 0W40 at my local auto shop (not available at local walmart) for $14.50 after tax and they are "ON SALE" otherwise it'd be $18 before tax(12%). That's a lot more expensive than I expect. Next time, when I am down US side, will pick up some of those for much better price. Damn Canadian retailers.

14.50

Damn, expensive oil changes north side of the border. Although I'm not surprised I have family in Canada and they use my house as a logistic's hub. A week doesn't go by that I don't get some kind of auto parts shipped to my house. Rims, tires, turbo's, heck my even a full body kit for an M5. I don't mind, the best is when they claim to have purchased "Nothing" at Canadian Customs.

100% agree, shouldn't have any on the floor or I'd be real worried. I had both my RMS & IMS replaced. I consume at 1/2 quart per 1000 miles, pretty normal IMO.

Ouch! I just picked up some oil at Walmart. I had to do a double take on the prices you paid. Not to rub salt on the wound, but I had to check for myself to make sure the price was what I thought I paid...Just checked this online...
