2) Porsche now says 1 quart every 600 miles is OK
Thank you that eases my mind.. I added half a quart last week and another half a quart today.. It must have gone through an entire quart and I didn't add enough.. Also do u add oil while car is hot or cold?
You are probably 1 of 100, I have heard of a handful of owners not having to add oil, but everyone I know with a 911 keeps oil in the garage.

My 06 C2S cab with 36000 miles uses a liter about every 1300 miles. My 07 Targa 4S hardly used any oil. Some consumption is apparently quite normal, so I don't worry about it. Remember, a liter is about 10% of the total capacity.
Oil usage varies. The average is well over 1000miles per quart, but there are some outliers. Some use no oil in 7,000 miles and others use a quart in 700 miles.
To determine usage, fill oil up to a known spot on the guage (the electronic guage should tell you if its getting a reading.. may need to be warm running engine .. not familiar with the 997.1's but thats how it works for the 997.2's). Fill it to a known point, then drive the car and once the oil level indicator is off the bottom end of the scale, now top it off back to that mark. Record the amount of oil put in and the mileage driven.
If you drive short trips, you might get some moisture buildup on the oil that will burn off in prolonged drives, so you could have the level drop when its only the water burning off. Best time to start an oil consumption test is after you do an oil change so you know whats in it (all new, clean oil).

Minok is right. Recheck it over time. You may have burned off previous owners condensation, especially if your driving style is different. In any event if you search you will see that each motor seems unique in this respect. It will use what it uses and other than allotting a bit of change for running costs it should not spoil your fun. Great car. Enjoy.
Make sure you are consistent with when you are checking the electronic dip stick. Porsche says only with a fully warmed engine after it has been off for at least 5 minutes. One knowledgeable board member says check it when engine is cold. If you check it twice on the same day using the warmed oil method you may get 2 very different readings. I do it cold before I start the engine. Readings cold might be a little low due to expansion of the hot oil but they are consistant and relative to each other as conditions are the same every time. As you do, I only add 1/2 Q at a time to avoid over filling.
You should not see that light my friend. Raise your right hand and repeat after me: "I will check my fluids."
