durametric tool

Is the Durametric tool worth getting?
I m thinking for oil change service reseting, DME scan ( although it s too late to do anything about that), and what else is useful to those that have the tool? Thanks.

subscribed. I'm going to get one also in the next six months I'd say. Have the similar device for the Audi, and it's a snap to use. Give an update on how it works.

Definitely worth it IMO. I've had mine for a couple years and have used it to reset my service lights and confirm a dealer's DME scan on a car I recently purchased.

Durametric can do much more than just simply clear CELs. A lot of tuning parameters can be followed to fine tune aftermarket ECU retuning/hardware modifications to maximize power.

yes, and with the entry level durametric you can see tuning parameters but can not make changes with the unit?

So I hooked mine up today and ran through a couple rudimentary diagnostics checks. So far my impression of the tool is mixed. It clears errors which you wouldn't see if you used a simple ODBII reader, clears the service now indicator and has a hole host of options which you can enable or disable specific to Porsche.

Durametric Setup:
Mac OS X running VirtualBox with Windows XP

I think for someone who is just going to drive the car and get regular maintenance it's not worth it. For me I'll hopefully use it to diagnose and monitor the car as I make changes since I'm out of warranty.

I have the enthusiast version. The software I believe is identical, since there is only one version available.

---cleared dash airbag light after console dis/reassembly
---turned off AWS function and seatbelt chimes after GT2 seat install
---diagnosed & fixed accel pedal potentiometer failure

I have the basic enthusiast version (not the pro one).

1) It lets you read any fault codes and clear them.. useful for our own diagnosis of issues such as when the check engine light comes one because the fuel cap isn't on fully tight. Saves some pointless trips to the dealer/mechanic now and then.

2) Lets you 'sorta reset' the maintenance reminder. What it does is a full reset of the computer interval to the max that is has. For the 997.2 that means 2 years/20k miles. So, since the makers don't consider oil change a 'service', this is rather pointless for using the intervals for anything other than the 'major service intervals'. I'd say, as was built into my 1994 Golf GL, the thing should allow you to set the next reminder to a mileage/time span of YOUR CHOOSING. Maybe its just me.

For the price, for what you get, I consider the unit overpriced, but then it is for Porsche's. As comparision, I'm using the VW/Audi VAG tool which costs 1/3 as much and does more functional stuff in my opinion, for the individual maintaining their own car.

The Pro version does add coding for even more money, but my thinking is once you have your car configured with the parts you want, its set, so the pro features then become pointless. Yeah, you can set chimes off, but once set, will you need to redo it? Why not just use a mechanic/service dept for that as its a very rarely used functionality.
