OCD question about tinting

So...four years ago I moved to Arizona and have resisted getting my windows tinted. Next week, I'm having some clear bra refresh done at the vendor that does the work for Porsche of North Scottsdale. I'm considering have them do window tint, but I'm nervous about the installer scratching up the rear with belt buckles, shoes, etc due to the confined working space in the rear passenger compartment. Totally OCD of me, I know.

Thoughts?

OCD. Say what you have to say, watch them, and let them do their work. You'll be pleased, I'm sure.

Agreed. If they do stuff for the Porsche dealers, they're around high end cars all day. Place I went to does all BMW, Audi, and Porsche in my area, and even though they're all tatted up, they are very professional and take care of your car.

What's really going to bug you is how the tint doesn't perfectly stick to the little dot patterns on the windows. After a while though, you don't even look, and I don't even care. Still better than no tint at all!

Tell the installer to take off the shoes, belt, watch, rings, earrings, glasses, and anything that might make a scratch and you should be ready to go. Tint is a nice mod.

IMO, go to $99 tint shop in the penny saver, you will have this problem. Go to a clean reputable installer and you probably won't.

Previous owner of my car must have been a big jewelry person - probably rings since both the driver's door pull and the metal around the handbrake were so dinged up I replaced them. I always tell my wife to watch her jewelry and the decorative stuff on her purse when she's in the car - believe me, the interior can be damaged.

Having your key in your hand when you open the door handle is a big no no as well. I unlock the car remotely, but have a bad habit of opening the door with the same hand I have my keys in. No scratchs but a few close calls.

The best way to handle this is to do a complete walk around with the installer/shop owner. Point out any existing imperfections, document them and also take pictures.

If you do this they will know to be extra careful with your car and IF something were to happen you have documentation that it was not there when you dropped the car off.

As someone mentioned already, an experienced company / tinter will know how to treat a customer's car right. Afterall, the reputable companies didn't get their reputation by frequently damaging their customer's vehicles. Also quality of tint should be considered:

This is a pretty amazing window film....only downside is that it is somewhat difficult to install without a certain # of experience in years

Hi,

What's the approximate cost & length of time needed for this tint? Also, how long do I need to wait before applying the clear coat protection since I just got the GT3 kit done to my vehicle about 8 days ago?
Thanks.
Joe

Joe,
The Photosync tint has not yet been adapted to our Socal facility. Please contact our Socal facility at 714-628-0100 directly to see when they will have it available.

As for paint protection film, if you just painted your car, you would have to wait 30 days prior to film application.
