e46 went to shop, came home with a carrera
I guess I can now join this forum.
How many e46 owners on this forum? Mine has been giving me issues, nothing big but just $400 here and $800 there to the tune of $4600 so far this year. 2003 325i with 140,000 miles on it.
I felt that if I'm spending about $4600/6 ~ $765/month to keep the 3 up and running I could/should be looking at a new ride.

A few clicks later I'm the winning bidder in a 997 Carerra Targa 4S on ebay motors.

How many of you have moved on to Porsche after owning a BMW?
Also I would like to say that I am fulfilling a long time dream here. I said back in 2002 that i would own a Porsche one day. Can't wait to get the keys to mine this Sunday, about 9 years earlier then planned.

Welcome and good luck. I am not sure what to say. Ebay. Whew. Can you post the auction? I'd like to see what moved you over the internets to make the move. I replaced my e46 m3 6 years ago and have been smiling ever since. Must say you got you moneys worth from that bimmer though. Hope this is as good a car for you. Congratulations. Crossed fingers for you here but maybe thats just me
Congrats on the new car. I too just fulfilled one of my dreams of owning a P car. I came from an e39 M5. What a difference between them. But I expected this...
I've never bought a car off eBay. Just makes me too nervous.
Be sure to post some pics when it arrives.

I saw some online vids of the 997 Targa's and fell in love. I think my wife will love it even more with that roof.
I still have the e46, its been paid off for 4 years and it is running GREAT after the $4600 spent on it this year.
Some guys told me that it is finally broken in at 140k and that it will run 250k-300k.
Got to drive an M5 once, it was almost too much car. I wasn't used to moving that much mass that fast.

I have an E92 335i, (2007) bought new with European Delivery. Just got a 997.2 C2S (2009) in January, both in the garage now.

Congrats. I drove BMWs for 20 years, since college. 318 to E30 M3, Mcoupes, E39 M5, X5..a dozen in total. i was even my chapters BMWCCA president for a few years. I love them and can fix them pretty well, but I am more than satisfied with my move to a 997. It has cooled my passion for BMWs quite a bit..
Don't need a Porsche to dwell on 6Speed.
For sports (or sporting) cars I had a 911SC Euro that was completely rebuilt and modified, then to a 996 which was such a big DISAPPOINTMENT, to then an E46 M3 'Vert. I bought the M in 2005. It was heavily modified including ESS' CFR500 supercharger. The car on low boost put down 429 RWHP with 320 RWTQ. It was a TERRIFIC CAR. However, every time I saw a 997 I wanted one. I sold it a year ago for the Carrera and I love it. The "M" brand is a very worthy machine.

Later I removed the Vorsteiner parts for the sleeper look. I retained all of the performance parts (power, full-race suspension, etc.)

I do miss the boost - but that's on tap for the Carrera.
