May I ask you something?

You fit the maf sensor before the throttle.
Is this right?how it measure the temperature that comes inside the engine and is the temperature?
Do you have any other modification in order to be safe?
If the maf sensor is there you don't have less power when it measure more temperature that the temperature that a normal porsche 997?
You have any resistor pack at the maf sensor?

Ill have to dig up some photos with the bumper removed. The maf is located after the intercooler, it is a Blow thru setup. Works excellent, BOV is mounted to the intercooler and vents to atmosphere, Intercooler is where the original drivers side muffler was, turbo & WG's on the other side. Moving the intercooler out of the engine bay helped get a straight run in and out of the MAF sensor to eliminate any inconsistencies due to turbulence.

To people looking to do the same thing. Id recommend using the TPC kit, just upgrade the turbo, at the same boost level, using the same tuner it made significantly more WHP than there kit. I thought by having it fabbed up by a Performance shop that I would save some money and get better hardware. I ended up getting better hardware at the same cost and the shop took a very long time. The shop is MaximumPSi. They are located in Central NJ and do fabulous work, very honest people and charge very fair prices. Unfortunately time management is there downfall.

So you believe that if we fit the MAF sensor after the cooler and before the throttle we will not loss power because of the hot air that goes inside the engine?
I'm asking you because I have a custom kit with Vortech supercharger and we left the MAF after the K&N and it measure wrong temperature and its not good because is not safe for the engine.
We measure the temperature at the MAF before the Vortech and it was 68F but its not the right temperature because we don't have how to measure the temperature that goes inside the engine.
How you fixed that in order to don't blow the engine with the hot air?

BaldBag if you don't mind me asking, whichbrand/size intercooler did you use?
And what size intake pipe is that, it looks like it opens up in size to a larger dia. after the intercooler.

I'm just currious if it was just a bigger version of the TPC intercooler like the photo below or a diffrent set up.

Here is the TPC Intercooler

Badbald, did you ever find or take any pictures of the intercooler setup? If you don't mind sharing them I would love to see some other alternatives that the one i already have. Thanks

Its a shame that Badbald never replied with further information. I too would like to know more about his IC setup as I plan to fit the TPC Racing single turbo system to me 997.1. The initial issues that o would like to change are the position and type of the IC. Thereby allowing the Air Intake to be routed back to the stock position and continue to make use of the cold air intake from the engine compartment lid.......

BitEmNBeatEm, did you ever make any further modifications to your TPC setup.... would love to hear from you and see some photos!

I loved this one... but Vivid Racing have discontinued this kit now: http://www.porscheboost.com/content....97-1-Carrera-S

Regards
Chris.

I'm curious if this car is still out there and running as it was with this turbo setup since this thread is a couple years old there were a number of unanswered questions back to the OP back then. I didn't see anywhere the OP mentioning lowering the compression ratio of the NA motor before doing any type of forced induction on it, which I think would be pretty necessary to avoid detonation. It's also critical for proper engine management and correct fuel trims to take the intake air temperature after it is compressed by a supercharger or turbo as the process of compressing air makes it hotter.

On my RUF supercharged car, they:
  • replace the original DME with one from a TT in order to have the necessary parameters to control a forced induction motor,
  • engine compression is lowered by pulling the heads and going to thicker head gaskets,
  • the intake manifolds were redesigned with integrated Intercoolers and formed from aluminum instead of plastic,
  • the mass air flow sensor is in the original position, but the normally integrated air temp sensor in the MAF is disconnected and intake air temp is provided to the DME via a separate sensor that's threaded into the right side intake manifold
  • a totally different MAF is used I order to provide the correct range of values back to the DME
  • Etc

so, as you can see, if you want a robust forced induction conversion, it's not a simple process to do it correctly. The best course of action is to sell your NA 997 and buy a Turbo, rather than convert what you have.
