Would you buy my car?

When I originally picked up my Targa4S on a 2 year promotional lease offering from Porsche I had every intention of keeping it until the next Targa or GT3 came out. The car fits my requirements perfectly with rear hatch for the golf clubs, the roof for nice days, and the 4WD for the winter months. It has every option I would want other then maybe full leather and PSE.

My car has been in 2 no fault accidents (one front light job 10k and another rear end hit 14k). The rear end hit was scary and the mechanic told me there is ever so slight frame damage - nothing I have ever felt even after driving back to back comparison cars.

In December (lease is up) the car will be worth 80k Canadian (retail was 142) - right now they are selling C4S cabs for 100+ with 20,000+kms on them mine only has 16k. My dealer has told me because of the hits the market value has taken a beating and you should run while you can (no penalty in CA). The other side of the coin is that there really is nothing out there that I am lusting after that just nails it for me! I was thinking of adding a car to the stable and keeping this classic.

Question is:

1) Re-lease it with Porsche for a year even if they kill me on the residual (they know about the accidents)?
2) Buy it and mod it with PSE, no worries you can sell it in the future.
3) Dump it and run - thank your stars you leased it!

Thanks for your help all...

Joe

Dump it. No telling what problems you may have later. There's plenty of Porsche 911's out there.

You've only put 2,000 Km on the car since the rear hit. That's not enough time for problems to shake out.

If you had done 20K with no problems then I might think differently but I'd find another one.

Also, I'm not sure from your post but the residual is set at the time of the lease inception. What is the dealer talking about yours taking a beating because of the accidents? Is he just suggesting that he can't retail it for as much? I bet you anything that yours will go on the lot for as much as any other. It may take longer to sell with accidents on record but it's not like they are going to offer it up at a huge discount. The fact is only you and the body shop actually know how much damage was done to the car.

I had a similar decision on my 09 C2S. I dumped and ran last year. The market is full of nice cars.

Dump it and be happy you leased it. Hopefully, Porsche won't bend you over because of the accidents when you turn it in.

I would keep it if I were you!

I'm keeping mine and my one accident was much worse than your 2. The artists that fixed mine basically rebuilt the entire rear end and it's flawless. The owner told me that it's my decision but not to sell it because it'll never be the same because it will. He has no reason to tell me that....none but that's what he says. If someone built it someone can rebuild it!

Mine is a dream to drive and the Porsche tech told me he couldn't believe the rebuild could be done this well. You can't tell looking at it and certainly from driving it. I plan on buying it at lead end.

All the best,

Tom

Dump it, don't even think about it. Once a car is in a major crash it will never be the same, no matter how well its patched up. If you have an easy way out, I would take it. The car is like a girlfriend, next one is always better.

The expert has spoken........I'm just wondering if that applies to wives too? I bet your wife or GF might think differently or if they're lucky the same.

And what makes you the expert in either case?:roll eyes:

All the best,

Tom

Listen Tommy, I did not try to insult you in anyway, although you are doing a fine job yourself. I will leave it at that.

As far a car being in a crash. You do not need to be an expert, it only logical that anything once broken, will never be the same. Its a fact, talk to any mechanic. Since you are keeping the car you can tell yourself whatever works for you.
I have had many cars, few of them in major crashes, and I can tell you from experience that given enough time things will come up. Guaranteed.

The GF joke, its only a joke, relax man. Don't get personal about my wife/gf situation, that's out of line.

Respect.

This'll be my last response to you. I've talked to mechanics (DUH!) and they didn't say what you said but I was just asking you a question.

I'm trying to give the guy a different POV....one that's just as valid as yours as they're both just opinions. I talked to artists though!

I joke as much as the next guy but I'd never say what you said joke or not. And my point about GF or wife wasn't an insult to them....I'd suggest you read it again slowly this time:roll eyes:

First you call me an expert (sarcastically) then you tell me to read your post very slowly. This is called passive aggressive behaviour. Why did you pick on my response to OP, mine was not very different from many others. Was it because I didn't like your new wheels? Surely you can't be that petty.

Dump it. I'd never buy a 911 that's been in any type of accident. People telling you otherwise are people who likely own a "touched" 911. Easy decision.
