As long as there are no sharp creases, they can use a heat gun on the plastic and push the dent back out. I did this on a Boxster that I owned a few years back when I had a driveway accident and bumped into my SUV and kissed the trailer hitch. Came out reasonably well
if the bumper is removed, filled and repainted, is this a good alternative? is this going to affect value of the car?

I've had plastic bumpers in the past removed, sanded, filled, and repainted and it looks like new. A good body shop can do that for you. Trying to coax out a dent in plastic is 50/50 at best. Pick a body shop that has the best paint booth you can, shop it around. It's cosmetic only so it is not critical to the safety of the vehicle. You have time to find the best price/value that fits your budget.
Cheapest and.best way is getting a new take off one with same color. That does happen but not always.
You next best bet is repairing it. Shop around and you will Probly get it around $700 range if you are paying without insurance.
That bumper is definitely rpairable. I would not spend more in getting a new one.
If done right, it shouldn't hurt resale too much. Keep photo of the damage for next owner.

My vote is 'yes, a reputable dent guy should be able to fix that for $100-150'
So check with one who does good work and he will tell u beforehand what is realistic.
Also u might be able to find a rear bumper (in black) for sale at this forum or salvage yard for few hundred.. Thus saving money on re-paint.

Should be able to heat it up and get the 'dent' out no problem, just keep an eye on your paint for the next couple weeks. You'll run the risk of it comming up as a result of the heating process. The only good news here is that stock bumpers come up quite often after guys replace them with aftermarket stuff so worst case scenario I'd go this route. Don't bother filling it... you'll be dealing with it again in a years time. The filler just doesn't flex like the plastic does and eventually shows up again.
