"Rear Fog Light" error after installing LED kit
Hey there, I just installed a rear LED kit from design911.co.uk on my 2006 997.1 C4S cab, and all works fine and look great, except I'm getting this error. What's odd is that the rear fog light actually is the only light remaining that's not LED, meaning it's a P21/4W bulb. I put the original bulbs in place to try and same error. Any idea where this can come from? Is something caused by the LED tricking the car into thinking the rear fog light bulb is defective?
I believe only the Dectane lights came w/ the resistor packs. I could be wrong. At least mine did and I had to use them to avoid the error message. The resistor packs simply fools the car's light sensing error function (LEDs don't have the same resistance as the normal incandescent lamps). I believe the resistor packs are needed for early MY 997s (ie 2005, 2006). I've heard some other suppliers of LED replacement lights have the resistors integrated into the lights.
You probably need to contact the place you purchased them from to find out who the manufacturer is and hopefully get some answers to your specific problem. Might be just a faulty LED.

The OP says his rear fog light is not LED, so lack of resistors may not be the issue.
I would suggest the OP check to make sure there is only one rear fog bulb, not two. It should only be on the left side (or the right side in UK).

Hey, thanks again guys, it turns out I was wrong, the rear bulb is NOT the rear fog light, but the brake light. The rear fog light is indeed one of the LEDs from the kit, and according to my local Porsche dealership, it's because of insufficient resistor load. I went online and found out that folks are using 50W 6 Ohm LED Load Resistors, is this what you'd recommend? I've read other comments that these use a crapload of power and get super hot, is there a better/recommended type of resistor to use? Thanks!

You might want to consider buying the Dectane 'Resistor Pack' from Frank @ Orange Tuning or make up your own 'pack' using multiple resistors (lets say (3) 18 ohm 10 watt resistor in parallel) to share the load and make the physical package suitable. That would yield a 30 watt package that should be sufficient for derating purposes. You'll need wire-wound resistors; you won't find carbon resistors w/ that wattage factor.
Here's a link to help you select the resistors you need:

I hope this makes sense to you and helps.
