Alarm immobilizer - Lockout Question?

Just wondering has this ever happened to anyone? I was driving the car home, hour drive. Had to stop at a corner store, left the lights on, turn the car off ran in and out (2 minutes). Didn't arm the alarm or anything. Hopped back in, turned the key and nothing. No crank. OK. I thought maybe I drained the battery?? but in 2 minutes, couldn't have. Cycle the key again, this time it says "Depress Clutch" not the usual engage clutch if you forget. Never seen this before. I depress the clutch, remove the key, try again and it fired right back up.

Wondering if anyone had anything similar happen. Then the rest of the ride (2 miles) I kept thinking I was down on power, also felt like I was idling weird, but I think the non-start might have gotten into my head.

Is it possible your immobilizer kicked in? (However, it's supposed to kick in if you leave your key in the ignition for two minutes without starting the engine).

I didn't leave the key in the ignition, I took the key with me, I didn't arm the car. Which is why I find this odd??

Although I'm not sure if there is a timing sequence between leaving the vehicle (with lights on, unarmed, to having the car kick into immobilizer mode)

I just had this happen to my GT2 - one of the two keys stopped functioning. And it never recovered. Thankfully, I was at home. An attempt at reprogramming the key's transponder to the PAS/KESSY control module failed, and required a complete control module swap.

Does your other key work?

I didn't try the other key. I mainly use the one. Weird part was that it started right up after I removed the key and put it back in. As when I had try to cycle it a few times nothing happened. I haven't driven the car today yet, so we'll see what happens.

I really hope it isn't require a control module swap.

If you put the key in, turned to ignition 1, and no electronics showed up the first time, then my guess is something happened to PAS/KESSY.

If you put the key in, turned to ignition 1, and everything electronic lights up but the car doesn't turn over, something else is happening.

As far as depress clutch, this is what I usually see in my GT2.

Scenario 2, put the key in, turned to ignition 1, everything lit up. Clutch in, Nothing.

Cycle key, holding clutch, nothing.

Still holding clutch, cycle again, nothing. Got "Depress Clutch"

Released clutch, removed key.

Inserted Key, pressed clutch, started right up. I want to go for a ride but waiting for the weather to dry up.

Your car may not have sensed the clutch depression - I have had a situation where the sensor for the clutch depress did not allow the engine to turn over. My guess is your KESSY/PAS unit is fine.

This may help:

and

It's a pretty easy DIY.

It's either the clutch/cruise switch, or the clutch/ignition switch.

bbywu.

Thanks for that, I haven't been able to replicate the issue. It must have trigger while I ran out without unarming the car while leaving the lights on/door unlocked. I ran around all day today, with frequent stops, must have been a fluke. If it does it again, I have your post as reference. Thanks so much for your help +REP!!!

Also, extremely jealous as that little graph in the center of your tach!!

And it happened again, will order the switch online and will replace it this weekend. I noticed it only happened when I put the key in and turn it very rapidly to start. Normally I turn the key, let the lights light up, the K40 mobilize then turn the car on, no problems then. If I rifle the start, get "Depress" message.

Thanks again bbywu for making it easy.
