Help With Cup Holder Alternatives
So, you're okay with reaching down to the passenger floorboard just to satisfy your coffee habit?
Totally unsafe in any traffic. I have no cup holders in mine and I'm fine with that. The link in the second post has been around for a long time and seems to work (and it will keep you from digging around the floorboards).

Kuerig machine at home, fresh awesome single cup of coffe in a travel mug, 15 min commute, only drink it when I reach work. I only need to transport a travel mug without spilling. No need to reach it while driving.
I'm about to give up, buy a second Kuerig for work, make the coffee there, and stop worrying about cup holders in the P-car.
The stock cupholder is very effective. It can accomodate a large range of container sizes and disappear when not needed. I have had the noted problem of coffee flowing out of the cup under lateral acceleration & had to replace stained floormats once because of this. Good luck finding anything better.
There were no drive-through fast food restaurants in Germany until the 1990's from what I recall.
Thats the benefit of black rubber floormats ... the spillage is contained and I just rinse them off. Though it might run down the center hump a bit... a quick wetvac fixes that (unless you have no lid or other condition that causes it to slosh out onto the PCM screen.
The idea of cupholders is still anathema to 'driving' especially something like a Porsche sportscar. Bu then US driving (long, slow, boring) begs for any distraction and the heat can kill ya so adapting to the US market conditions was a reasonable compromise.

I bought the one that Katera suggested and I can't see how if would work in a 911. The end that slides between the seat and the center console is way too thick. Also, it is hard plastic and I've gotta believe that it would scratch the center console - either through regular use or probably especially any time the seat moves.
I'll see if I can make use of it in one of the other cars but it is a quite expensive piece of plastic. Sometimes I don't mind paying the "Porsche price" for something if it's of great quality or even if it has been specifically designed for our cars, which are low volume. This doesn't seem to have either feature, and it seems like something you'd buy for $8 at Walmart.

I bought one too for grins, and it works perfectly. Try it out first, then you'll know for sure.

The website says 996. Do you have one in a 997? How is it mounted?
+1 for the one like the ultimatecupholders.com model. I have a similar unit that I used in an old corvette. I kept the cup holder when I sold the car. It slides right in and your cup is secure on the ground and easy to get to. It does not really get in the way of passenger's feet either.
Not for a 997. The console side panel is too high for the design. Works on a 996. I bought one to use with the 997 (no good) and now use it in my other cars.
