Gundo Sonic Heaven...
Gundo Sonic Heaven...
I had a local muffler shop weld in some 2 inch stainless pipes in the Gundo prescribed manner a couple of weeks ago. I finally took the mufflers to my favorite independent shop to get them installed this week. They sound awesome! I have heard the stock PSE mufflers and these may produce a very slight increase in sound over the stock PSE's. However, they sound very, very similar. I could not be happier with this modification.
Many thanks to Gundo and all the forum members who have offered advice on this modification. This is by far the best "bang for the buck" I have done thus far on my Carrera S. The welder charged $80 bucks. I bought the used set of Carrera S mufflers with 4K miles on them off Ebay for $150 and my independent shop removed my stock cans and replaced them with the Gundo modded cans for $95. I have a total of $325 in this project and still have my original mufflers should I need them when I sell the car one day. What a bargain! Gundo for President!

Jsimon77,
My shop had never done 997S mufflers specifically before, but the shop regularly fabricated pipes for hot rods, etc. It is somewhat of a gamble I guess. I took pictures in showing exactly what I wanted and told them I wanted their best welder/fabricator to do the job, Just make sure they know how to weld and make certain they use stainless pipe and stainless welding rods. Keep in mind these are under the rear fenders and you will never see them unless your car is on a rack. I did not expect perfection, but my job met my expectations. If you want them to look really nice and the welds nearly flawless, Darren Fister (http://fdmotorsports.net/fister-exhaust-997-one) does a really nice job although it costs more. Good luck with the mod!

Sounds like you have a sport exhaust installed if when you push the sport button you car gets louder. If this is so you really don't need, nor do I think you can have the Gundo hack done, on your car. What I understand you can do with a sport exhaust is disable the sport valve to have the exhaust in sport mode full time.
Best,
Matt
