Quick question...tune or not to tune the ECU

Subject line says it all...seriously thinking about a flash. The car is CPO'ed..09 PDK.

Anyone know of a real example of the dealer flagging the warranty due to the re-flash?

You can always look at Softronics - there you have the ability to flash it back to the original.

What are you expecting to gain from reflashing a naturally aspirated engine? With a turbo, sizable gains are to be had by programming to increase boost. Thats just not possible with a NA engine. The risk / reward / value of reflashing a NA engine doesn't indicate much upside. Porsche didn't leave much if any power or torque on the table with the NA engines. Look at the effort they went thru with the X51 Powerkit for 15-20 hp (I can't recall the exact amount).

Just one old engineer's viewpoint.......

This should be your last mod after intake and full exhaust. I'd seriously wait until you were out of warranty.

+1, not worth it for the minimum gain. Even your butt dyno isn't going to noticed a big difference.

agreed not worth it, researched it, seriously considered it, spoke to the P Car mechanics, tuner shops, its a smoke and mirrors game with a NA engine. Invest elsewhere like at the track, and enjoy your car ! As well, and I've been through this before with other cars, be prepared for engine warning lights and other potential got ya's which may mean nothing but can drive you crazy.

The greatest restriction on thse cars is breathability (as suggested by other comments). From my experience, and having discussed with several others "in the know", it appears the greates gains can be had in the following order. 1) Headers 2) Cats 3) Intake... then, if it really makes sense, and you're commited to using high octane fuel, go for the software stuff. But the software stuff is a waste of money if the engine can't breath.

BTW, your OEM exhaust (cat back) is just fine. Change it for sound, but not for gains. Your gains are in the headers/cats.
