I am fully aware that our engines sound like sewing machines and are not nice to listen to but I have a sound that I just want to check to see if it is normal.

In my 997.2S at idle, with the aircon both on and off, I can hear what almost sounds like a belt but not quite making a whirring noise in one second intervals. It is not screaching, it is not loud, I don't hear it outside the car, only inside the car. The wife hears it too. It literally makes the noise like a quartz watch tick would every time the second hand moves. As soon as I put even the slightest amount of throttle to it the sound stops.

Does anyone else hear this? Is it normal for the engine or could I have a loose belt or other item that I need to address?

 

i have the same sound as well... i took it to the dealer they looked it over, no codes not porblems found, mine may be louder as well due to the exhaust work

 

Is the noise similar to this video? Mine disappeared over time.

 

I had that on my 09 S. Never figured it out.
