997 C2S cabriolet rear rattle - help required

Guys,

I have tried searching the forum but with very little luck in finding any posts.

I have a rattle at the rear of my cab when the roof is up. It sounds like a squeeky rattle coming from the passenger side rear behind the rear seats?

I had read somewhere about the roof cross member being secured by some metal clips that come slightly loose and then rattle? the cure was the remove it and use double sided tape in the holes before putting the clips back in?

Issue I have is i'm looking for DIY instructions to remove the roof interior cross member?

Expert help required?

Thanks

Phantom

Had the same thing in an 06 C2S Cab I bought a little over a month ago. Dealer replaced the headliner for the top and it went away. No idea how much it cost since it was a certified repair.

Convertible Top Rattle

I've had the same experience in my 997.1 cab. In my case, the bolts that act as hinge points in the frame had worked themselves loose (one at a time, over time). The fix was simple, required just a Torx wrench (I don't remember the size offhand, will check at home tonight) and some Locktite. To save yourself some time & frustration, I've found it easiest if you open the top a bit (say 12-24") to create slack in the frame - trying to re-insert the bolts with Loctite on them when the frame is at tension can be very difficult. Note that there are typically washers between the members held together by the bolts, so be careful not to lose them when you disassemble.

This is a quick fix, shouldn't take more than 5-10 min to Loctite & tighten all the bolts.

Good luck!

Your dealer replaced a headliner under CPO? I was told the headliner is not covered under CPO as this is a wear and tear part. Were you still under factory warranty at the time also? Becasue if you were, it would be covered under the factory and not CPO.

I had more of a squeek coming from the back and it went away when I lubed the rubber gasket around the window with silicone.

I too had my headliner replaced under CPO (Beverly Hills Porsche in LA). In my case, the plastic clips securing the headliner to the cross members above my head had come loose, which was causing some rattling over rough roads. I was surprised that there wasn't a cheaper alternative, but decided not to look a gift horse in the mouth. Made having to replace the entire AC head unit just to fix the worn rocker switches much more palatable!

Maybe yours was covered under CPO because something actually broke. In my case the headliner is sagging with wear (no rattling noises) and some of the headliner is wearing off and I was told this is not a CPO item because it is trim and wear and tear which is NOT under CPO only factory warranty.

My rattle does not appear to have gone its coming from near the rear window and sounds like a rattle squeak. Keep thinking something is loose but have not yet explored?
