Need advice: considering 997S
Need advice: considering 997S
I am a current Cayman owner that has recently driven 2 different 911S's with PDK/SC/PASM and loved them! One was a 991, one was a 997. The 991 I got to flog on a small road-course set up at a Porsche Road Show.
The 997 belongs to a friend and I have only street driven it, but I was able to run it hard on some very twisty roads in S.E Ohio, so I have a good feel for it too, and the differences in these two 911's.
The local dealer has a 2009 997S with PDK/SC/PASM and 2300 miles asking $79,000.00. I am seriously considering this car, but I want some advise. 2009 was the first year of some big changes was it not? Has there been any unusually high problem areas with this model year since there were some major mechanical changes?
Any other advice, thoughts, etc on purchasing this CPO 997 911S?
Thanks,
Woody

no problems ith the 09 or any other 997. I think 79,000 is hi for a 09 S ,
For the 991 there are several upgraded systems but its mostly the same engine and trans , with new intake , and ecu and trans programs.

I paid low 70 s for my 09S but with a 6 speed.. and 5K miles, cpo d....
I think you are in the range of making a deal if it s the car you want. Asking and selling prices are two different things... I love mine...

Nothing wrong with an 09. Although I would advise on finding a few more miles as well. 79K is also really high in my opinion. I'd be inclided to buy one for 60 with 20K miles. But it's all relative to the options, etc.

At 2300 miles, I would say the car was not driven enough over 3 years. That would cause me to have concerns because problems can arise from inactivity. I would like a car to be driven at least 3000 miles per year.
Great food for thought folks, I appreciate the input. I am going to test drive it tomorrow just to get a good back-to-back comparison to my 6MT base Cayman.
My Cayman is a wonderful car, but I lust for more HP and I find the 911's I have driven handle great too.

I traded a C6 Z06 for my 911S and am very happy with the change. The 911 is a much better daily driver.
I agree with OKB, the prices is high for an 09, dont't know what options are on the vehicle but offer them $10K to 15K less.

Dealer is trying to make a lot of $$ on that car. As a matter of fact, does it have exactly 2382 miles on it and is it green???
If it is let's just say that a little birdie told me that he paid $68,500 for that car at auction last week...... doubtful they put $11K into it for tires, CPO or whatever.
BTW - green was a Launch car and not the most favorable color to come people.

that should put it in the low to mid 70 s . If I loved that car I d expect to pay 74 or75K(at a dealer)... Its like a new car, full warrenty. The CPO alone has be be a few grand. I d be thrilled with the miles and wouldn t worry with that kind of warrenty. Mine was three years old with only 5,000 miles and now has 10K with zero issues. Depending on options I would say that car listed at about 110-120K. As we have seen 997.2 have been holding their value for numerous reasons stated in other threads. Good luck, keep us posted.
PS/ be it right or wrong, used car prices are heavily based on mileage.

The color isn't bad, I like dark green, maybe not so good for future resale though I imagine. The interior is Sand Beige, not my favorite but I could probably get used to it.
I had already determined it was an auction car, thanks for the tip on what the dealer paid. Like everyone else I always wonder why a car is up for sale with so few miles on it, and the tire mystery.
In the end it will be easy to walk away on any deal that is not favorable since my Cayman is a real sweety
tire mystery possibility/ maybe one got damaged or cut beyond repair and in a pinch someone had to put a mis matched tire on.
Doesn t sound like you are thrilled with this car anyway.

Launch cars are usually demos. It might have lived its life doing test drives and then the dealership needed to clear some space on it's lot.
I think you'd be much better off with something like this.... even if it's labeled wrong.
