Can't believe I'm saying this... I'm Pondering Parting With My Baby.
Can't believe I'm saying this... I'm Pondering Parting With My Baby.
And I need your help...
I absolutely love my 2006 C2S factory aero, 6sp manual (she's actually 100% bone stock/factory). I'm the third owner and wasn't in the market for a Porsche. She's never had any issues mechanical or otherwise. She actually found me through word of mouth and, knowing her garage queen record, I pounced.
The previous owner, a good friend, was very overprotective of her. He actually kept the car on those round blocks to keep flat spots off the tires. His wife finally coursed him to sell the car as their son was college bound. He knew that I was a car fanatic and felt comfortable with me as the guardian
.
I've driven ~ 2500 miles in the past 1.5 years since I purchased the car. The odometer is at 14500 now... She's been out out of the garage only 3 times since the spring. (I have 3 kids, one that's newly adopted from Thailand so our hands are full). I can't say that I've come to the conclusion to part with her 100%, but would appreciate the guidance of my 6speed friends regarding a suitable figure as well as any suggestions for getting the word out. I assumed Marketplace on 6Speed and possibly cars.com. KBB says $56.5K for mint, which she 100% is.
Other notes are sport seats, bose, chrono, multi function wheel. Carrera classic wheels have never touched a curb. The car has never even been parked on the street as far as I know.

KBB is not that accurate, I usually got to cars.com and autotrader to see what a similar one are selling for than base the price on what I see there. This forum and rennlist.com are good forums to list them on as they target Porsche enthusiast. Price on the 997 has actually gone up a bit as the 991 is not that much different and cost about $125+ for a nicely optioned C2S.
With three kids you should be demanding more "me time" dude. Happy dad = happy family. Start splitting them ip and doing day activities in the car. Parking it on the street won't kill you. Worry less and enjoy more. My car looks great and the few blemishes are just battle scars from good times.
IMHO anyways.

That's the crazy part. It's wholly owned and, at the rate I drive it, maintenance is negligible. The two oil changes have been due to time, not mileage.

Honestly, without knowing your motivation behind selling the car it's hard to provide you with good advice. But I will share a bit about my childhood and maybe you will get something out of it that will help you.
Both my grandfather and father were/are Porsche fanatics. Neither had the finances to buy every variant of Porsche they dreamed of but each was able to save up and buy a Porsche. And these cars were fanatically cared for, loved like a family member, polished, waxed, cleaned and serviced all within the confines of the garage. When I got to go for a ride, it was special event. I loved every single ride, every single memory, every single opportunity to share a special moment with each. We bonded over the car. I loved helping to wash/wax/change the oil, etc. and during those moments I learned many life lessons that influenced how I took care of my things, how I appreciated the mechanical art that is a Porsche, and how invaluable the time I had with both my grandfather and father created by the ownership of a car.
I own a Porsche. I hope to have kids so I can share the same experiences I had, with them. I hope that we can share moments that will become special memories in their lives, as I have in mine. And in some way, I guess I want that for everyone too.
My vote. Keep it. Enjoy it. Share it with your kids.

I feel your pain.
Wow ksozay, that was quite moving. Thank you for taking the time.
I suppose my motivation has been practicality. It's hard to ignore the fact that it's a depreciating asset in the garage. My upbringing was ever so humble and Porsche wasn't in our lexicon. I suppose that's where this stems from...

You will likely be hard pressed to find someone that will find fault in your preference to have money in the bank and not sitting in your garage. I firmly believe in making sure family comes first and that they are financially provided for. But that doesn't mean it's the attitude everyone should adopt, it's just mine.
That being said, if you are thinking of replacing the Porsche with another car, that's an entirely different matter that I'd be happy to banter with you about depending on whether or not that "next car" will be a Porsche. If I had a nickel for every time I heard someone say "I should have never sold that car, I loved it" -I'd have a garage full of nickels.
Best of luck!

Sell it. The worst that can happen is you decide it was a mistake and you go buy another one. It's a great car but there is plenty of replacement supply out there. Maybe you pay a bit more for the next one but in the meanwhile you've saved on insurance and as you noted the car is more likely to get cheaper as time passes.
Unless something falls through in the next three days, I will also be an ex-owner. I live 1.5 miles from my job so I can bike to it and I found that I just wasn't driving enough to justify keeping her. Plus, I'm scraping together as much cash as I can right now to position myself for other opportunities.
All of that said, I'll be back when the time is right... guaranteed!
