Local Muffler Shop says No to the Gundo!!
Local Muffler Shop says No to the Gundo!!
So I'm looking to get the gundo hack done on my 997.2 For simplicity I'm looking for a shop to take off the mufflers, hack them, put them back on...then off I go...sounding awesome.
I went to a reputable local muffler shop, brought all of my print outs to show him what he needed to do. He looked at it for about 15 seconds and said..."Not My Job."
So...I'm back to square one. Can anybody point me to a shop in LA that can do this for me?

I think a muffler shop will do the actual gundo welding but might stay away from the removal and installation work. You might try removing the mufflers yourself and then bring them into a muffler or welding shop.
Had the same thing happen to me when I was looking for a shop to do the work. They'd take one look at my car parked in their lot and turn the job down. Finally found a shop that did custom exhaust jobs on high-end show cars and the like. they did the R&R and welding in about 2 hours for $200. Keep looking.
Exactly why Fister is such a good deal - they'll do it for you, no issues.
Biggest thing is to be happy with the mod. If a shop says no, you probably don't want them touching your car anyway.
I do recall asking a chain muffler shop to do the hack in the early days, and they too said no. Must be something in their policies that prevents them from muffler or exhaust system modifications they could be held liable for.
Unless you find the right shop, you'll be removing and reinstalling your own exhaust. Not hard, but not easy either if you don't have a safe way to lift rear of car, tools and experience.
Good luck in the quest!

pretty easy with a few tools and ramps or a lift.... and yes you need someone who will weld stainless.

Darin does prefer to exchange...however I was in his shop Thursday as he put 15mm spacers and 5mm spaces on my ride and I would say he had 10 or so mufflers on the floor!!

I'm all for doing it at FD Motor sports...they just don't have any 997.2's in stock to trade with and I'm trying to figure out how NOT to be out of commission for 2 weeks.

There ya go. Darin will do a good job.
That's too funny. I get that from my employees sometimes. If u are going to take off the cans yourself, why not just shuttle it to the welder in canyon country, have him weld it, bring it back and install. Done in one day.
