GT3 Front Bumper Conversion & Downforce
in any case, was the precision porsche 997.2 GT3 kit perfect fitament? I've read somewhere about having to modify something under the decklid or wing. If you don't mind sharing, what was the breakdown for parts, paint, and installation?
I also visited the precision porsche site and for the GT3 front bumper, it states
GT3 FRONT BUMPER WILL FIT 2005 TO 2011 997 CARRERA. OTHER PARTS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE KIT

Under high speed in windy condition does have negative effect as I personally experienced today. Have noticed this before and today i am totally convinced 997 car with GT3 front bumper without matching rear wing have stability issue at high speed. Rear felt light...

Average speed was around 110 mph, running from Renner to Miller Rd toward Lake Ray Hubbard on George Bush Turnpike, wind gust was about 25-30 mph.
Pickup the GT3 aerokit wing from paint shop next week...will see.

Getting back to the original question about the Ducktail . . . I don't think that down force is really what you are looking at with a Ducktail. The shape of your 911 is somewhat wing-like. As such, when you go fast you will generate lift. Basic physics says that air will flow more quickly over the flat underside of the car compared to the air flowing over the curved top of the car. The air on the underside will have a higher pressure than that on the top of the car - thus you are generating lift. The Ducktail doesn't so much generate down force as disturb the flow of air over your car. In essence, it generates a turbulence that disturbs the smooth flow of air and in effect negates/lessens the lift. Now, the GT3 front bumper is intended to more efficiently channel air. In theory, what it is doing is getting those air molecules under your car (generating high pressure and lift) while at the same time reducing drag. This efficiency needs to be balanced by increased downforce (and drag) and a ducktail wing, which doesn't really provide downforce, isn't up to the task. (I've seen data, anecdotal as it is, that suggests the ducktail is about as effective for disturbing the flow of air as the standard automatic wing in a 911.)
So, to answer your question. I think that you could use the GT3 front bumper with a ducktail but at speed it's axiomatic that your car is going to be unstable - or at least less stable than if it had a proper wing. At exactly what speed and the definition of unstable I have no idea. At the end of the day you are faced with a form versus function decision. If you do go with the GT3 front bumper/wing combination make sure they are properly matched. By that I mean, buy the version that has been wind tunnel tested to work together properly. There are suppliers out there that just sell a front and/or rear with absolutely no data on whether or not they work together.

Ive installed the sport classic ducktail and aerokit front end and the car is rock stable at speed. When I first added the ducktail without the aerobat front I noticed the car felt light in the front at speed. The aerobat really tightened it all up.
