I am taking my black NB 911 into the detail shop on Friday for a wet sanding as well as stone guard removal on the rear fenders. The existing ones are in pretty good shape, but one of the corners has started to bubble so I thought that I should just go ahead and replace them. I was also thinking about having them removed and just leaving them off so that waxing isn't such a chore in that area. My thought is that if I do start to get scratches or chips in the area, I can always go back and install the new stone guards. I would welcome any feedback on either replacing them or just leaving them off.

 

put them back on, they are there for a reason. IMO.

 

Perhaps try something new like flat black ones

 

I would put them back on. You will get rock chips in that area without them.

 

I have black and love them. Black on black looks great.

 

I'd say replace them and use the matte finish guards from Suncoast.

I'm sort of biased since I put them on my black 997S.

 

I tried black this go-around. On a white car it's an easy decision as the adhesive tends to collect dirt on the leading edge and you can't clean it. On a black car that would not be noticeable so I might just go without. As you say, easier to wax.

 

Interesting. I have the same decision coming up in a few days. My car is in for paint correction and I am having my guy remove the guards. I have been thinking about what to do. I will probably just go OEM for now. I was planning on doing a full clear bra, but money is running low for frivelous stuff like this. Let me know if you get the black ones, would love to see it. I will have my GT3Tek lip on when the car gets back too, so I can show you that.

 

I would be more concerned with having your car wet sanded. I am not sure how bad your paint is, but wet sanding is pretty harsh and should only be used as a last resort. You should always start with the least amount of correction until you get the desired results (in a test area of course).
