Just for information, owners of the new 991 need the dealer to replace battery as one needs to connect the piwis to do the job right. The car has to know what battery etc etc to allow ghe recuperation feature to work properly!

 

and your insurance company is going to require you install a dongle to verify your driving habits before they will consider covering you. That dongle will auto-transmit ALL data to their data bank in the cloud. You can imagine what is next !!! Perhaps sticking with the older cars is going to have some charm (especially in the pocketbook). Just sad about the good old days I guess!!

 

Recent BMWs also require a dealer visit for battery installations.

 

Yep, my 5 series requires this. Supposedly the computer alters the charging current depending on battery age. You need to reset.

Have heard mixed reactions from those that have not done this. Who knows if you really get more "life" out of the battery or not.

Given fees to program the car it may just be a wash in the end.
