PCM Update Error
PCM Update Error
I updated my PCM software with the 3.0 CD. I was running 1.0. When the CD goes to update the amplifier I get an error and it says to reinsert CD and restart. After 50 times of doing this its not working. Now When I hit main trip I got the triangle with the excmamation point where it says amplifier and the radio is not working...Anyone know what happened?
My guess is you have an early 997 (2005) that has an Bose Amp that is incompatible w/ the PCM upgrade. If that is the case you might have 'bricked' the amp. Let's hope not. If you search the various Porsche forums you'll find threads related to this topic. If you can't find anything let me know and I'll PM the information.
Of course if you have later model 997 my guess is way off.
Good Luck . . . .

I suspect your amp is toast.
1st gen Bose amps had to be replaced w/ a later configuration to accommodate the PCM 1.0 upgrade. It's in the instruction package.
According to the "PCM2.1 and BOSE Amplifier spare parts requirements" before updating to Model Level A, you must first check to see if you have the correct Bose amplifier. It states any Bose amp having part number 997.645.333.04 or 997.645.333.05 must be replaced with 997.645.334.22 or newer.
"Vehicles equipped with Standard Version (04035xxx) first need to be
updated to Model Level A (04202xxx) using update disc 000.043 .205.46.004
which is not included in this kit. Refer to bulletin Group 9, #7 /04, titled "PCM 2.1 &
B0SE Amplifier Spare Parts Requirements, Part lD 9110.
Read the information in bulletin #7 /04 carefully, An update of the BOSE Amplifier (if
equipped) may be necessary."
If you PM me your email address I'll send you the PDF files of the instructions which might help you understand the problem a little better.
If its want I suspect you'll have to find a way to replace your amp w/ the correct configuration before you can go any further. Maybe your local Porsche dealer might help (mine did) you out but I suspect you're so far out of warranty that you'll have to foot the bill yourself.
Good Luck!

Im so glad trying to update my PCM has turned into shelling out hundreds of dollars lol. Is my best bet at this point to get the 997.645.334.22 amplifier? Is it just plug and play? Thanks for the info btw..I appreciate it .
